Wholesale Definitions and Common Terms Used in Wholesale Business

Brand: A brand is a trade name and symbol that incorporates all information connected to the product or service. A brand is developed to immediately distinguish a product or service from another competing one. A brand is fiercely protected and heavily promoted in order to help develop a relationship with consumers.

Distributor: Someone who sells goods wholesale to a retailer rather than directly to consumers.

Drop Shipping: A time saving device where the manufacturer packages the product and delivers direct to the consumer, rather than sending it to the distributor for packaging and delivery. Although more costly, it saves an unnecessary leg of the journey for the merchandise and also saves the distributor a great deal of time.

eBay: An online auction site and marketplace where new and used items can be bought and sold all over the World.

Information: Information can mean many things depending on the context. However, it generally refers to data that has been processed and organied in order to add to knowledge, provide instruction, communicate, give mental stimulation, or offer a representation.

Reseller: Someone who has been formally approved or authoried to resell goods for a particular brand or brands. This means that they have special distribution rights, and profit margins are secured from being diluted by too much competition.

Review: A brief critical examination and evaluation written by one individual. Reviews are often used to help determine and disseminate the value of plays, books, websites, concerts and new products among other things.

Supplier: A person or organiation that sells brand name products or services.

Wholesale: Goods purchased in bulk, and at a discount price, by one carrier from another. The carrier who purchases wholesale goods is sometimes called a "middleman" or "distributor".
