Blog » Get Ready For Online Holiday Sales: Cyber Monday is nearly here!

Fantastic news for online retailers: According to Google Research, 64% of shoppers plan to spend more this holiday season than they spent in 2009!
That means that this holiday season is crucial for your 2010 to go out with a bang! With Cyber Monday fast approaching, now is the time to really crank up your inner sales guru!
What is Cyber Monday?
Just in case you’re unfamiliar with what Cyber Monday is, and how it affects online retailers, here’s a quick definition: “Cyber Monday” refers to the Monday following Thanksgiving Day in the US and unofficially marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
As online retail has proliferated globally, so has the concept of Cyber Monday, and therefore, Cyber Monday now encourages more Christmas shopping to buyers all over the world, not just in the US.
The term was coined in 2005 by the US National Retail Federation after multiple ecommerce sites reported booming sales – with increases as high as 70%!
What can you expect this Holiday Season?
According to a survey by Javeline Research over 40% of all surveyed Christmas shoppers plan to buy more gifts online this year compared to last.
Furthermore, Google’s latest research shows that the top 10 categories that consumers plan to spend more on are all highly popular items that shoppers purchase online:
I know this comes as exciting news for many SaleHoo members who are established sellers in these categories.
Can I get a hallelujah?
What are your expectations for this holiday season? Do you usually make more sales in November and December? We would love to hear your experiences, so please leave a comment below.
And to all our US members: From everyone at SaleHoo.com, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Hi,
This is the first November & December period that I will be selling. Been on Ebay only since January of this year. So far (in November anyway) my sales have picked up a lot. In fact I've sold more than the previous 2 months before. I sell a variety of items like electronics, DVD's & toys and have been a bronze powerseller for over 4 months. Not bad for my first year.
Because of the pick up in sales I can expand the range (& the business) and hopefully buy from more from your sites directory. So If sales are supposed to pick up over the Christmas period, bring it on :)

Hi Alice – a definite hallelujah and an amen. I sell handcrafted wooden watches and decided not to wait until November to begin holiday selling.
I had my large holiday order into my supplier by the beginning of September and prepared some holiday discounts and offered a wide selection of watch model listings for the start of October. So far October and November have both been high sales with November starting to inch out ahead.
I’m glad I started early. Sales have been great and buyers delighted.
Happy Holidays

Well aren't you organized? :)
Well done for getting your supplier order done back in September - it's a great way to make sure you have everything sorted for when people start to think about gift-buying.
Your handcrafted wooden watches sound really interesting, definitely a great gift idea!
Happy Holidays to you too, and good luck for the next couple of weeks leading up to Christmas :)
