Hi,

I often see affiliate programs advertised and I always wonder how they work and if they do in fact generate profit.

I have been to all the different affiliate sites that try to get you to download their affiliate software and stuff, but I don't understand how they work.

Do you set up a website and sell products from that website that are not your products but other vendors? You take a commission for the sale but the vendor makes the actual sale, your site is just the referee?

If that is so, what takes people to your site in the first place? Something of a marketplace? If that is the case wouldn't there be hundreds of these affiliate sites around?

Just curious to know the deal, as I have added the affiliate link to salehoo on all my sales and emails to people in a vague hope of getting someone to sign up and scoring on the commission. No luck so far.

Anyone had any success?

If you want info about affiliate marketing and other home based businesses, I have found the following sites helpful: Ryansreview.com and thewebreviewer.com. Through these two guys sites I was directed here.

Most of them pay you to get them new memberships. When a person is directed to a site by your ad or your website and they buy a membership or product you get a percentage of that sale. Some people do nothing but affiliate marketing and have made themselves very wealthy doing so.
