    I have to say that seeing all these new sites popping up actually drives me nuts. The last thing we really need at the moment is another new site, what we desperately need is a serious alternative to Hell Bay.

    The problem is that no other single entity can seriously challenge ebay, all that happens is they compete with all the other companies and end up taking market share from each other, not from ebay!

    What needs to happen is from someone to develop a platform that somehow combines all of these other smaller ones so they are all under the one banner.
    That would bring all their combined traffic, and that would then be one major pain in the rear end for ebay, because those numbers would mean something!

    At the moment any new player coming into the market is only hurting the other smaller players already in the market, and not one of them is even on ebay's radar.

    For years I've been waiting for a Google or a Newscorp or someone with some serious clout to set off after ebay, I mean it's not like there isn't a market there, and if anyone can't do a better job than ebay, then I'll suck seawater!

    If these massive companies don't have the interest in doing it, then someone has to get all these other guys together, all promoting their sellers goods on the one platform.

    If that doesn't happen, or we don't get a major player taking ebay on head first, then we are forever doomed to have 300 odd independents and bloody ebay that is 100 times bigger than the whole 300 put together, and frankly that just sucks for sellers!

    When on earth is someone going to get serious about providing competition to these guys?

    Hey Mark, I am totally on the same page as you with this one!

    What I also find very interesting is these sites like ONLINEAUCTION.COM. SOCEXCHANGE.COM and even Bonanzle with their premier memberships....all these types of sites offer to charge a monthly fee to sell on their site but you know what? have these sites are not even in the top 100,000 visits on Alexa.com except for Bonanzle.

    Seriously folks, if anyone on this site is even thinking of starting an online selling venue, please DONT DO IT! unless you have some serious business plan in place and have a huge marketing campaign to compete with ebay. As Mark says all those starting these little niche sites are only hurting us sellers!

    I have to admit that I have done the jumping on 5, 10 other selling venues and realized im just wasting my time with these folks.

    I am not one to support eBay's running of their business these days, but trust me when I say this, eBay is not going anywhere anytime soon. They are a Public traded company and make over 2 billion. These guys may kill alot of their business but believe me, the shareholders LOVE this business and to eBay and other top business invester's, that all that has to count. Not us complaining about how much eBay is ruining our abilities to make money online, or yelling on the blogs or creating these silly websites that are anti-ebay and PayPal. Seriously, do these people think they are going to hurt eBay's bottom line when it comes down to it? NO! LOL

    ok thats my frustation...

    How do you think eBay started? The site I listed is new but it is also getting big time exposure. Glenn Beck did a interview with the guy yesterday on his show which is played on talk radio stations across the United States. The site got so many hits it crashed! I never said this would be a eBay killer but it is another avenue to sell your products and it is FREE. It's free to list a item and if you sell a item you keep 100% of the money! NO FEES!! If you don't sell one thing on there then you have lost nothing. This is more or less an attempt to go after Craig's List rather than eBay. It is very simple to use and it is family oriented. Did not mean to ruffle any feathers in here. I am always eager to share new avenues to move product. Take it or leave it, but me personally am tired of paying the outrageous fees to eBay every month!

    No i didnt mean to upset anybody by my post its just everyday you get these new sites with all these promises and nothing but a steam of nothing but benefitting themselves by having their own platform but probably wont be around in a year.

    No offense but having been on glenn beck doesnt say much.

    My own comments were not intended as a personal attack on the site itself, or on you for posting the information 101. My post was more a commentary out of frustration about what is happening in the market in general.

    Everybody's looking to make money and if they see an opportunity then they should go for it, no problems with that. I was talking as a seller in general terms, nothing more.

    As a seller, you should be covering all the bases you possibly can to gain maximum market exposure, but what you need is effective exposure.

    The problem I see is every time another player enters the market, that is another avenue I as as seller now have to cover to stretch my exposure.

    This takes more time and effort, thankfully in this situation it doesn't take any further cost, but I have to ask myself how effective will it be in rewarding my effort.

    When I calculate marketing effectiveness, it's a very simple equation for me.

    Effort (being time management, cost, ect) Vs Reward (the bottom line)

    In doing that calculation, I look at where the traffic is coming from, just as much as what the current volume is, and the potential growth of that traffic.

    I divide the traffic into two market segments in general terms, ebay traffic and all other traffic period. When doing the calculation I am looking to see where the traffic is coming from because I am trying to asses whether or not I am spending the effort to do little more than re-arrange the patio furniture.

    What I mean is, if the indications show or I suspect that the new platform will be taking ebay traffic, then that's a positive sign for me. However, if it appears that the new platform will be taking traffic from another smaller platform that I already use and get decent reward from, I have to ask myself is it worth the effort when I already have a presence on other platforms where most of their traffic will be coming from anyway?

    If it looks like the platforms will be sharing the same traffic in general, then I may well be wasting my time opening there as well. Of course if the new platform looks like putting a dent in the traffic of my current platform, as a seller, I'm then forced to re-arrange the furniture by now using the other platform as well to maintain the traffic that I already had before they came along.

    Essentially, my work load has now increased to cover that market, but my bottom line may not to match it. Every time a new player comes into the market to carve out a new niche, life doesn't automatically get better for sellers, it can mean more work for the same reward.

    Of course in this game effective exposure means traffic, and as much of it as possible!

    I understand that these guys aren't targeting ebay and in general terms that is what frustrates me. No one is going after ebay, they are all taking up positions in the market place that see them competing with each other, and ebay just keeps going on their merry way smiling all the way to the bank, and leaving them to all fight for the table scraps.

    These are business people and most have half a brain. They known they can't hurt ebay because they don't have the resources, so they target other areas where they can compete That's just smart business, and kudos to them if they can make it a success.

    Unfortunately, what is good to put money in their pockets is not always good to put money in sellers pockets, it can just be more work, that's the general point that I am trying to make.

    I just don't think we need other players coming into the market at this point in time, I just don't see more and more platforms providing sellers with better opportunities, just more options and making it even harder to market effectively.

    What we need as sellers in this industry is effective competition, not simply more competition that is watering down the effectiveness of other already established platforms. By that I mean ebay competition, not Bonanzle competition or competition for any other platform.

    Yes, it will take a bucket full of cash to chase ebay down, yes it will take a few years to make a dent in their market, and yes it will take some serious commitment, but until we see someone do it then they are going to remain the biggest show in town, and that means that as a seller you are seriously limiting your market if you aren't part of that show.

    Again, nothing at all personal against this site whatsoever and I wish them, and all that use it the very best. New selling platforms for members are of course always good to get information on.

    My comments here and what I wrote earlier are nothing more than me thinking out loud, and a commentary on how I personally see the marketplace in general terms.

    I just long for the day when I see a new player enter the market that is not only serious about taking ebay head on, but has the backing to be able to do it effectively, and finally provide sellers with a platform of equal potential that doesn't have the thirst for blood that ebay does.

    Just my opinion, and I tend to have so damn many of them that if I don't expel a few every now and then, my head will explode, and all be it not the best melon on the planet, I've grown quite fond of it : )

    thanx dwmgoods, glad somebody agrees. i know this isnt the forum to go on a political rant.......... but man, i cant stand glenn beck. just hearing that name gets me in a bad mood.

    This is definitely not the place for politics, I tried to ignore the comments but I read one toooo many. I for one am a HUGE Glenn Beck fan. We on here are about making money, the entreprenuer, ie capitalism. SO, how can you dislike Glenn Beck?? A man trying to defend that very thing, trying to protect the American way, our Constitution.

    As for Ebay, I agree. Either one big money giant needs to start a company to compete against ebay, or many many people in the general public need to invest together to start up a well thought out company. Maybe one that combines the strong parts of ebay and amazon combined. Ebay/Pay pal have become a dirty, corrupt company. My other thought is how come those whom have had their money withheld ie 'stolen' have not banned together to have a class action lawsuit filed against ebay/pay pal. One or two people filing a complaint will do nothing, but a group of people fiiling would be a whole nother story.

    We just started to get Glenn on our local radio station but anyone who is against the crooks we have in Washington right now I am all for! I especially love Rush Limbaugh. If it were not for people like this fighting to keep capitalism alive in this country we would have people like the Glenn Beck haters just handing over the keys to Obama and his socialist party! I simply wanted to share a new site I found. Did not mean to turn this into a political chat but I too was wondering the same thing as Lee19. It is strange to hate a person that is trying to defend the very thing you are in this forum trying to do.

    I too want to apologize for my expressing comments that had nothing to do with making money, which you all are right it should not have been spoken about in here and I like raiderjake could not help my disagreements with those 2 talk show hosts. I respect all people that have their own rights and choosings of a party because after all we are all Americans! thats something we all can take pride in, including we that may not like those 2 hosts. So im sorry again and I wish you all a prosper new year!

    It's the two major political group mascots, Republican, and Democrat (aka Dumbocrats). The Elephant is the Republicans, and the Donkey is the Democrats.
