    Re: Hillary or Obama

I dont think there ever is a great choice for a good president. Its a big job to fill But I dont think anyone can screw up our economy any worse then it is already.

I personally do not want hillary in office. She has already proven to be too emotional for the job. The last thing we need is an emotional wreck in control of our military lol .

But I do agree on the views of both parties on a complete gradual withdraw of our troops from Iraq. We have been there too long. and its time that the government of Iraq Stepped up and handled their own security.

Obama is definatelyl out for me. Hillary may be a little emotional but that is not always a bad thing. At least, she has somewhat of a christian background but I must say, that Obama's religious background scares me. As you know, our country was founded on Christ and when that component is left out, our country goes down the tubes. Personally, I wanted Huckabee!!!! He He!!!!

Actually, the country was formulated with the idea that church and state would be separate. In fact, the first amendment states 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…'. You might be confusing the fact that many people came to the Americas to escape religious persecution (such as the Pilgrims) but the founding fathers clearly wanted to separate church and state.

    Re: Hillary or Obama

That may be true but I'm glad our money still says in God we Trust and the Pledge of Allegience still says 'One Nation under God' and if you will read God's Word you will find that any nation that has turned their back on God has fallen and we are in danger of the same thing. So my thought was that if I were choosing someone to run the nation, I would certainly look at their religious background; it concerns me that Obama will not say our pledge or put his hand on our bible. What else will he not do if he is elected? I realize that everone has their own thoughts and that is ok, but this is mine!!

I'm with you 'shirlsshopandship' in your ideas of God. We HAVE turned our back as a society---- and I could really go on and on about the ramifications of that... but this really is not the place. If you do not agree, just pick up a history book and see how EVERY great nation has fallen. It is no coincidence.
Obama is so 'cookie cutter'. He reminds me of a Jr. High schooler running for class president. Promises promises. What's next? Free vending machines in the offices across America!? He is sooo smooth it is scary.
However, I really do not think Hillary is the answer either.
    I'm voting for Jimmy. 8)

    Re: Hillary or Obama

This is an excerpt from barack`s book about his religion

I was not raised in a religious household. For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness. However, in her mind, a working knowledge of the world's great religions was a necessary part of any well-rounded education. In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology.

On Easter or Christmas Day my mother might drag me to church, just as she dragged me to the Buddhist temple, the Chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites. In sum, my mother viewed religion through the eyes of the anthropologist; it was a phenomenon to be treated with a suitable respect, but with a suitable detachment as well. As a child in Indonesia, Obama studied for two years at one Muslim school and then two years at a Catholic school. In both places he experienced religious indoctrination, but in neither case did the indoctrination take hold: during Quranic studies he made faces and during Catholic prayers he would look around the room. Eventually, Barack Obama abandoned this non-conformism and skepticism to be baptized as an adult in the Trinity United Church of Christ.

The United Church of Christ emphasizes the freedom of the individual conscience over adherence to creeds or hierarchical authority. This is similar to traditional Baptist Christianity and something that is honored more in theory than in practice when it comes to the Southern Baptist Convention. Several historical creeds and catechisms are used by the United Church of Christ as statements of what their faith, but none are used as 'tests of faith' which a person must swear upon.

It looks like this thread has turned into a religious discussion. Ok I’ll bite.

Actually, this first amendment you’re referring to restricts the government from interfering with religion - not the other way around. Any person, religious or otherwise, has no less right to be involved in government the way they see fit. And yes, this law was intended to end religious persecution because of the oppressive law of England which did indeed have religious laws. There is no mention of “separation of church and state” in the Constitution.

By the way I do not favor Hillary or Obama. I'll take Jimmy.

This country was dominated by christianity, not founded by it. Just because you move somewhere and make everyone live the way you want them to does not mean that your word is the only word. Remember, there were already people living here long before there were christians forcing thier ways on others.
There is no one right way for people to live.

As for Hillary, she lies too much.

    Re: Hillary or Obama

Well, God was here long before this country was here. He is the reason for your every breath and can give and take it at his will. he is your creator and gave you life. Aren't you grateful for that and the fact that he went to the cross and died for you so you might have the chance to return some of that love by living for him. As far as this country being dominated by christianity, God gives us all a free will to chose how we want to live and it is your choice. Some people have the mistaken thought that we try to make you live as we do but the plain truth is that as a christian, we are to strive to be like Christ and that means loving you and praying for you even if you don't believe. That is your choice but that won't stop me from loving your soul and praying for you.
I am not crazy about Hillary either but I just feel that she is the lesser of the 2 evils!! When I go to vote, I will say a prayer and let God direct me at that time. My faith is Free Will Baptist and my uncle is a Southern Baptist preacher and the comment above is not reflective of our faith. We believe in every word in the Bible and that is what I try to live by. That is why this world is in such a mess, because people are living anyway they want to instead of living by Gods Word. When our country turns its back on God, we will fall. That is not my opinion, that is biblical. Again, Huckabee would have been my choice, not Hillary.

I don’t believe that religion has any place in the government. Our leaders should put their personal religious beliefs aside when making decisions that impact millions. G.W. has had conversations with God and look where that’s gotten us.
I have to vote for who I think can beat McCain and that’s Hillary.

Religion may not have any place in government but it sure does have a place in the persons heart who is in a government position. My religion makes up the person that I am. I would not be able to function day by day if I did not live on my convictions. How can you hold an office and keep what you believe out of it. That is what you are inside and what makes you make the decisions that are so crutial to the office you hold. I want the person who has a direct phone line to God so that he can consult when the going gets tough. I truely believe that McCain is a little to old to run for Pres.
By the way, how old are you Jimmy?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That may affect my vote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

    Re: Hillary or Obama

I definitely think that we should have a younger president. I don't think that we need to stick with older hardliner ideals from an older president. We need someone that is more in tune to todays generation and the needs of the people should outweigh our reputation as the most powerfull country in the world.

Right now there are alot more younger people that are very interested in what is going on with our country. I do think we need to get out of Iraq. Let them decide how to run their own country and if they cant figure it out let the country burn itself into the ground. Yes Saddam Did need to be removed. But Saddam did keep Iran In check. And I seriously doubt he was a threat to us.
Our military even though its more advanced then any other nation is getting very tired. I have so many friends in the military and some have been in Iraq 3 times. Why are we there? Shouldn't we be in Afghanistan finishing the job we started ?

In my opinion The US really should Leave International Issues in the hands of the UN. If the UN wont do anything then its their problem. We are the worlds only superpower. If we don't have the support of the UN then how Powerful are we really? Were not going to be very powerful If we cannot afford to fill our own gas tanks. And were not going to be very powerful if we strain our relationships with our ally UN members.

The US really needs to concentrate on its own affairs and Its own people. They are bankrupting us all for a war we don't support anymore. I want our troops to come home. There will be no end to the fighting over there. Its all those people know. Our ally 10 minutes ago are now running up behind us with grenades. My brothers best friend has nightmares every night because he had to shoot and kill 3 boys no older then 11 years old. 2 armed with AK's and one throwing grenades. There is no control. They can claim all the progress they want. As soon as our troops start pulling out the violence will escalate again.

I actually miss the Clinton Days myself. When the only thing the media had to say was I didn't inhale. Or the stained shirt in the oval office ordeal. And the national debt was getting smaller and smaller. While many many younger families were able to buy homes because it was easier to get credit. And it was also the early days of ebay when it was so prosperous to sell there.... I miss those days.

And BTW im 32 Old enough to know. And still care :D
