Importing and Drop shipping. Hard to start from NZ?

Post tumtum1 26/04/2006 02:38

:) :?: OK. Ive been surfing the net and learning about importing/dropshipping/ebay/ affiliate programmes etc. My problem is this. I am living in NZ so a lot of the wholesalers as they call themselves that ive found are based in UK/America and asia, therefore, the costs are pretty high once they have chucked on their handling fees, shipping fees so by the time you pay for it, there is not much of a profit margin left! and being in NZ, there are not a lot of local dropshippers/wholesalers(if any) around! I was wondering if there is anyone out there who may also live in NZ who have found a way to make importing or dropshipping work for them and even thought of using say a US based dropshipping and selling via ebay to USA based customers. any suggestions, views, thoughts are welcome.
thanks :D

 I dropship ink cartridges in Oz, mainly as a training ground for when I find a decent product. The suggestion about eBay in the US seems sound as long as you can appreciate that fixing problems will be more difficult. Not sure about the tax situation also.

I have found a range of Chinese suppliers prior to signing up to SaleHoo. All seem to be fly by night, so take the profit when you can, and at some time expect problems. SaleHoo suppliers seem to be standard ones you can find on Chinese promotional sites, so not sure if any protection is afforded there.

If you do drop ship in the states would be interested in the tax implications.

Bottom line on dropshipping is that margins are always slim as you don't take the risk on inventory. If you want to improve the margins you have to buy stock.

If you have the money to make a investiment, why dropship.. as you need to be responsible for two parties, your buyer and your dropshipper.
I am Simon and I need your help ;) ty
