The best advice is that if it is a branded cellphone, then don't touch it. You run the risk of the transaction being a scam for starters, and even if the seller is legit, you will be buying a replica, no matter what they tell you.

I know that. I want to choose carefully the cell phones I want to sell to minimize these problems.

I can only repeat my earlier warning really, there is no safe way sourcing branded anything from China, especially consumer electronics.

I you do go down this road with any Chinese supplier, you are putting your investment at serious risk.

I guess you are right... I'm very new in dropshipping and I don't want to make an irreversible mistake.

I'll look for better suppliers...

Hi eLuk,

fudjj is right, most brand name goods that come from China are either replicas or fakes. Assume that this is the case in the first instance and steer clear of these suppliers. If you're looking for cheap, generic goods, however, then they should be safe to deal with.

What kind of cellphone are you interested in specifically? Any brand? Model? I'll be happy to help you find some suppliers that suit your needs.

The lads are right.

We have experience dealing (importing) direct from China and it cost us $20k in bad mistakes before we got it somewhere near right.

If you're coming out of China, hire a local rep to scrutinise the products first - they're easy to find and well worth the investment.

China is a wonderful source of business opportunity, what you need is a local on the ground working for you and your interest.

It costs less than you think and well worth the investment, trust someone who knows from lessons learned.

Hi Chelsea,

If you are in the US, you can file a complaint here ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members**.

China is a good source for cheap, UNBRANDED goods and since online scams are rampant, we advise everyone to be very careful when dealing with Chinese suppliers or any suppliers for that matter. Always pay through PayPal or credit cards as these can be reversed if something goes wrong.

Please refer to the following links for some excellent tips on protecting yourself from getting scammed:

Hello everybody!

Thanks to all of you for your comments. I was thinking to sell generic cell phones, not brands. Therefore, I searched Chinese suppliers. Even so, I know I have to be careful...

Thanks again!

Greetings!

you're welome, its nice to be part of a community that looks after one another. We're in Australia and things are a little bit more difficult here (supply wise). We don't have the wonderful array of suppliers that show up in the USA and UK. We also need to be mindful of the exchange rate. China deals pretty well 100% with international markets in US currency which is fine if you live and trade from the US, however currency conversions can kill your profits and a couple of points drop in the A$ can really hurt. Can be a dangerous game

The AUS$ at present against the US$ is strong, trading near 90c so a good time to deal out of the US for us. A month or so ago it was only 78c. You can see how profits can quickly disappear.

Just to that exchange rate for other Aus members who are interested, all current indicators are that the Aus dollar will keep increasing against the Greenback, and some are suggesting it could hit as high as $1.05 at the end of the first quarter next year.

WOW, keep your eyes open for that if your seriously considering importing.

Yes fudjj, I am saving my pennies and keeping an eye on the exchange rate When it hits 95 cents I will move to replenish my stocks for the Christmas shopping frenzy. On another note, people should not tar all Chinese suppliers with the same brush. I have dealt successfully with Chinese suppliers who are gracious and honest, so they are not all charlatans. As with any dealings, you need to do your homework and actually speak to the supplier (most have skype phone) before you actually go ahead and send your hard earned dollars. (Some of you know that my hard earned dollars were lost to an incompetent American). The shopping centre in my suburb of Melbourne is 90% Chinese owned businesses and they are the nicest and most hard working of people to deal with.
