Need advice on how to avoid eBay's new store fees

Hello my Salehoo, been a while since I had logged on but I had been very busy, now I want to share something with you all.

I opened my store the summer of my junior year in highschool back in June 2008 ever since I have been doing good. I've had 1000+ items in stock at any one time. I closed my store last summer 2009 due to my dumb idea of going down to around 600 items instead of 1400 dumb idea was too lazy to upload them again with school and work so I decided to close it.

Now I reopened my store around October 2009 and everything was going good had to current date about 800 listings and I have about 1000+ items waiting to be listed which means business was going to continue to increase.

Unfortunately, I got hit today with a big fee. I used to pay .03cents for each listing which is not bad. But now eBay is charging .20cents ?????? You might not think it's much but I have more than 1000 listings a month so that's a lot of fees. Plus considering all my items profit is about 1.20cents I rely on quantity to make a profit.

So just today I decided to close my store again and look for a new solution to keep my fees down.

    Anybody else affected by this??
What do you think are our way out to avoid soo many fees???

    Hi TripleG,

Wow! (Boy) do you have products! Where did you get all that? But anyways have you read one of our latest blogs on opening an eBay Store, if you have I suggest you do. You may find the answer to your question there:

@TripleG: If your profit per item is that low, then I would seriously question whether an eBay store is the best selling platform for you.

You could either find something else with higher margins to sell there, or open an e-commerce store of your own, where you have a fixed monthly cost (or there are even some free options). This would give you much more control over your costs and you can just use eBay to list a few of your most popular items (as regular auctions) as a way of driving traffic to your store.

Well seems like the only conciderable thing to do is sign up for ebays 49.99 store package. But fees are still .05 per listing plus the 12% closing fees. Plus Auctiva has been charging 10 dollars every month for the past 4-5 months its crazy seems like anywhere you turn these companies are trying to put any charge they can throw

@TripleG: That's the net best thing any seller can do, choose an option that is somehow suited to their needs (We all know that nobody needs all these fees :D) Yup! nothing comes for free these days

Why don't you try another selling venue for your other items? I mean you could keep a few listings on eBay to drive traffic to your other off-eBay listings. There are lots of our auction sites that do fairly well and require a lot less in fees. Just a suggestion... :)

    All the best!
