Tips on how to sell at a flea market, needed!

I recently started selling at a flea market for fun and to make some profit. I find many resale products at ebay for a low price and I resell cute brand name stuff for very low prices just to sell them fast but people at flea markets might as well want it to be free. For example I sold this really beautiful bracelet that had the retail price of $14.99, I was selling it for $2.50 and this lady kept offering me $1.50. Some people are soooo cheap. Any tips. THANKS!

Thats because many think they can just barter with flea market owners. If you dont want to sell stuff for thier asking price then dont.

My experience is that everything at places
like these is that you have to have dollar
    items. With the dollars stores
everywhere, the swap meets are not what
they use to be. Now adays mostly what
    sells are fruits & vegtables, T-shirts (5 for 1.00)

PS: flea markets are called swap meets here in Ca

Flea market is like auctions... they make offers, you accept or refuse... how many times on eBay people bid $10 on an $500 item or come with a 'best offer' at 10% of your selling price?

I'm not sure if all of them are so cheap, sometimes they don't really need it but at $1.50, they take it.

Re: Tips on how to sell at a flea market, needed!

I price things a little higher than I want, they offer a lower price, I meet them in the middle which is generally what I really want for the item anyway. For example, Price a pair of sunglasses for $ 5.00 they offer $ 3.00, I say meet in the middle for $ 4.00 most of the time they will go for it because they think they just got a good deal even though I really only wanted $ 4.00 for them anyhow.

Expect people to barter at flea markets. One thing I learned is it depends on what you are selling. If you are selling stuff out of your house and you paid $ 100 for it, don't ask for $ 100 at a flea market, you will not get it. If you sell new items, mark it up x3, and expect to take in x2.

If a person touches something at your table, they are interested. Don't let them walk away. If they walk away, offer it for a lower price to where you are still making a profit, or have them make an offer. Be prepared to counter the offer.

And occasionally you do get those really cheap people who want an item that cost You 67 cents for 50 cents. They won't budge, those type of people you just smile and say "Have a nice day" and move on to the next customer.

Thank you. Quick question off topic. Can I post my site here? It has information for people who do flea markets. I am still building it, but have two sections done already.

    Hi Ujenco,

So long as you are NOT selling anything on the forum or posting affiliate links, it is fine to share a site link that may have helpful information. Kindly make the post in our Coffee Lounge :)

    Cheers!

Re: Tips on how to sell at a flea market, needed!

My brother used to do a lot of garage sales and flea markets. He was a barrel of laughs. If somebody showed an interest in something, he'd tell them it used to belong to Fidel Castro, or Elvis, or on one occasion Tony Mokbel (a horrible wig). They knew he wasn't serious but once he got them to have a laugh, he usually made the sale. It was fun working with him and his customers (or fans as he liked to call them) usually left with a smile on their faces.

Difficult I can do right away. Impossible takes a little longer
