Can I import Branded Made in China Cellphones to resell?

Postby Alton » 06/11/2009 18:47

Hello everyone,

My first post, my first week here. I have been selling on Ebay since 1997, but I decided to pursue another income stream such as dropshipping and buying wholesale.

My question is to what extent is caution necessary when buying imported products from China such as cell phones? Is there anything wrong with buying and reselling made in China cellphones such as Motorola or Blackberry phones? I know to steer clear of high dollar designer sunglasses, etc.

Thanks,
Alton

As far as I am aware most products coming from China will be fake, up to 95% or greater in fact.
Ebay are cracking down on sellers who advertise fake products and there are heavy penalties to anyone caught.
I personally would stear clear of named products from China.
It is probably just as easy to sell the non branded products as the quality is very very good.

Good advice. If you don't have experience buying from Asia tread carefully.
I would say that unless they are a real business with a website and been around for several years then watch out.

My guess and its an estimate is 4 out of every 5 sellers in Asia are either outright rip-offs or will not give you a fair deal.

Thanks for the advice, but what I am interested to know is if some name brands are okay to use. I assume some USA companies do have their products manufactured in China. Thanks.

My take on this:

Most US brands are manufactured in China but these manufacturers are contracted with these brands. Most legitimate suppliers of original products in China can be found in Trade Shows. Most of them also don't actively advertise or promote their products online. They won't be in need of buyer leads like most rip offs.

There's also what they call overruns but their distribution is not authorized by the brand owners and because of that they can be considered fake.

The best way to find a legitimate Chinese supplier would be to go there for a visit, attend Trade Shows and personally meet them. It would greatly help if you have an insider there, too. There are also companies that provide this service for a fee-they can be your eyes and ears in China, can verify a Chinese supplier for you. But this might be ideal for big transactions.

Uniqbe.com is a HongKong-based company selling branded electronics. They are listed in our directory, has been discussed here before (you will find the thread by doing a forum search) and are also registered in powersellersunite.com and thewholesaleforums.co.uk.

About their pricing, once you're an approved reseller, then, you will get discounts. Now, the problem would be competing on eBay. As we all know, electronics is the most saturated market and competing would be difficult if you are not buying in huge quantities or liquidation where you get products for pennies on the dollar. So I think it'd still be wise to go for liquidation but check the listing/description. Most of the time, quality/functionality of their loads are not guaranteed.

As far as I know. over 99% of branded name cell phones from China are fake. don't even try that as it will definitely cause very bad impact to your business or your license in ebay. of course, you can try some non-branded cell phones such as TV phones, etc. but you will have to try it out and tell your buyer what exactly they are looking for. the negative experience may be high if you use the description from your supplier directly. (it may high something which you never know)
