    Need advice on what type of products to sell

    Hi all, I know you've probably had this question a million times, but I'm really stuck on what to sell. I've done the brainstorming thing over the past four days and have come up with four options. I've narrowed it down to Pet Supplies, but finding a wholesaler/liquidator/manufacturer etc is proving to be a bit on the difficult side. Ideally, I would like to order from an Australian supplier, but this is also proving difficult. I have checked Salehoo and Alibaba but with all the hype about whether Alibaba is legit, I'm starting to get put off. I need some ideas and motivation as well! Please help!

    This is a very hard area to find manufacturers and get contacts. I know many aussies that are having the same trouble. And We know that most of the storefronts in austrailia get thier products from importing goods from other countries. Its just that the small time buyer just has a hard time getting the funds to buy containerloads of items.

    You guys are way down there.
    You know. Australia is kind of an enigma to many in the world. how about selling stuff native to your country.

    This might sound crazy, but how about selling poisonous spiders.(Dead of Course) And selling them encased in glass, as a novelty?

    Or do the same with some of the vipers. you guys have the puff adder or the tiger snake. Or how about the black or green Mamba. You could stuff them and sell them mounted. Of course some of them may be protected.

    Or how about unique items from the native indians. I forget what they are called. Oh yea the aboriginies.

    You could sell a lot of this stuff for 2 or 3 hundred dollars.

    Hope I'm not out of line here but just some ideas.

    Hi Planes,

    Definitely not out of line, however most snakes here are protected and I would certainly not go near them!

    With regards to aboriginal art, we do have a lot of places selling this and unfortunately, a lot of them are fakes. I'm from the Northern Territory and to get original art, you have to travel to the remote communities and buy from the artist direct. They don't do them in mass production.

    Hi there, finding what to sell is never easy as I'm in NZ I've got the same problems. But what I found is if you talk to friends and family, there will be products that they regularly buy but are overcharged for down this part of the world. See if you can source what they purchase at a cheaper price and look at bringing it into Australia. 9 times out of 10, there will be other like minded people who will want the same product at a cheaper price. Hope this helps.

    Yea, I thought the snakes might be protected.

    It's tough being the only island nation. IS there enough of an Australian eBay market to sell on eBay to Australians?

    Maybe buying smaller lots will allow sellers to ship to you through USPS cheaply and save you some costs.

    But I know it's tough. I sold a laptop to a guy there and it did cost about 90 bucks to ship it.

    Don't get me wrong but I laugh & laugh & laugh, at this reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It was so funny.

    But I can appreciate living here in the USA. We don't have any problem getting anything....and the World is not as small as we are alway told it is. But I would suggest selling some thing small like the GSM Cell phones you can get from Lightinbox, China supplier..I have see the iphone CECT model selling on ebay for over $200 US

    Ask yourself, what goods are you passionate about? The items that you love to buy. 9/10 this will be your best items to sell!!! You will have instant knowledge and passion about it! Ask some family and friends and do a survey of things they would like to have that may not be in your local territory!!! These are great places to start...

    I agree, you must have a passion for what you sell, but you also need to make some money out of the deal... which often makes it harder.
