    Quality Control for China

    Hi,

    I am looking to import from China. Does anyone know a good quality control contact/company I could use to vet the products prior to purchase?

    Hi TSO,

    If you could post the links we can help check them out, and help save you from the fees of using the quality control services.

    Here are some simple things you can do to protect yourself when dealing with any supplier (especially those found outside of SaleHoo).

    1. Run a whois check on the supplier's website to verify when it was created (it is safest to deal with suppliers who have been online at least a year), who owns the domain, and where the domain was registered (the country should match the contact details on the supplier's website). We recommend using link hidden (replace salehoo.com with the url of the supplier).

    2. Search the SaleHoo forum for the supplier's website/company name and see what other members have to say.

    3. Call the supplier's telephone numbers to ensure they are genuine.

    4. Purchase a sample before bulk ordering to ensure that the item meets your expectations.

    5. Watch out for sellers asking you to "safeguard" your purchase by sending your money transfer in the name of a friend or loved one, or by establishing a "test question". These actions will not protect you from a fraudulent seller.

    6. Low prices do not necessarily mean fraud, but radically low prices should warrant a closer look. If a price seems to good to be true, it probably is. Ask the seller as many questions about the item's authenticity as you can before you go any further.

    7. Always use a credit card or Paypal to purchase goods. These forms of payment are safe because they give you a comeback if something goes wrong. With these payment methods, you can usually have the transaction reversed fairly easily if necessary.

    Hi TSO,

    You might want to check out ProjectAsia.com - They provide project management, engineering resource, supplier management and quality control on your behalf. So basically they represent you and help ensure you that you are getting the products that you paid for :)

    Please note that we have not dealt with them personally but one of our master members had initially suggested this company in another post.

    I have read a lot on the forum about how to spot a scam, but I will also work through the points below. I am already in the process of securing a sample, which the said they will send for freight collect.

    Thanks Irene and Richelle, both posts are fantastic. I will definatley contact the customers in the US, and am currently reading about customs and importation. So much to learn!

    I have read some posts about paying GST at customs, should I apply for GST?

    Also, I have asked for some samples, but have not committed yet, as waiting for further info and researching what duties I will have to pay in Aust (to make sure I can make a bit $$ out of the venture)

    If I make an order, they have stated that for LCL, Shipping of the goodies from Ningbo to Australia is for free at presant. I have asked them to clarify. Are you able to help?

    I think it's added credential on your part as a buyer. A number of wholesalers will require you to have one. And since you are on the verge of starting a business you definitely should get a GST.     Probably because you're ordering samples and the quantity is less than container load (LCL) that is why they are not charging you for freight just yet. But best to clarify this directly with your supplier so a more appropriate answer :)
