Hello

I am new to salehoo and the wholesale business. I have already applied for my tax ID or (EIN). Will I also need a resellers license, or is the tax ID enough? I want to jump in head first so to speak, but I dont want to be surprised by extra taxs and penalties when the time comes because I didnt do things properly.

You need to get a resellers tax id if you do not want to pay taxes from your suppliers. If the EIN you mentioned is the federal tax id. you did not need that one unless you plan on having employees. You just need a State tax id for user and seller. User id is for things you buy to use for your company, not for resale. resellers id you have to have in order to collect taxes from customers with in your state.

EIN is mainly used if you plan to hire employees or plan to incorporate and really is not necessary otherwise. follow this link ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members**

It is really hard at this time to know exactly what you need. Does your business name include your last name? Do you plan to hire employees? Will you be charging taxes on your sales?

If you answered no to all the questions then all you need is a business license or DBA license and highly recommended is the resellers certificate...even though it is used in cases when you charge taxes...it can also be handly in the case you have a supplier requesting this information and some suppliers request a copy of your resellers certificate. The DBA license is easy to obtain and very cheap. With the dba license you can open a business bank account and do other things and it legalizes your business.

What many business owners is file a different form with irs and add their business expenses via their SS# when it is time to file but to be safe, it is best you call an accountant.

correct me if i am wrong, but you would need to be a US citizen to get a tax id/resellers. What you need is to register your company in your country and get a VAT # or whatever they give you in your country and depending on the amount of volume you plan to export(container loads or thousand), you will also need a export license.

to have a register comapny in the usa, you have to be a resident alien or a citizen yes, unless you regesiter a company in nevada or delware which allow shell companies or shelf companies. if you have a vat id its the same thing. vat is just done alittle different. if you don't live in the usa why would you want to pay us taxes? your alreading going to pay the import taxes in your home of record why pay taxes twice? unless your want to fund the war effort.
