Oh man you better beleive I'm sick of ebay. New rules and regulations are almost daily now. price increases, etc.. Holy Crap!! how's a man suppose to make a living.

Thanks alot guys...this information was really helpful to me...especially since I just started out selling..the info on the the websites that do not charge unless you sell are really helpful. Man I know ebay has made a fortune off of me by me not selling my items!!! Thanks a mill!

Thank you for the info. It's very helpful to know that ebay isn't the only places online and/or offline that I can sell products. Don't get me wrong. Ebay is a good starting place for auctioning goods, but I wasn't too happy with all fees they charge sellers with. They're not expensive, but the more you use their services, the more the fees excalates.

Hello, I just wanted to add something to one of the postings in regards to the Craiglist reference. I recently registered with that site and have already received a response from a potential buyer and I just posted an item yesterday! She had emailed me and asked if she could send a Cashiers check for her purchase, but I had a question for anyone who has any useful info about this topic. I was reading the craiglist "Fraud Warnings" and it states something about Money orders and cahiers checks possibly being fraud alerts when someone who wants to purchase something from you online? I haven't heard of this before, and since I am somewhat new to selling online it kind of makes me weary of accepting a money order or cashiers check from anyone paying for something online. Does anyone have any advice as to how to tell if someone has paid you with a fake/fraudulent money order or cashiers check?

with all the scams using cashiers chks and money orders out there, I wouldn't do it. I would just trust good old cash!

It's crazy talk. It's a lot easier to pull a scam with a credit card or PayPal account. If you get a cashier's cheque just call the issuing bank and verify it before depositing. If you accept money orders just stipulate US postal money orders only.

To add a layer of sticky to your offline payments, generate a unique code and require the payer to put that on the cheque/m.o. To add another one, print out an invoice with the code on it, ask them to sign it and remit with payment. This insulates you against fraudulent attempts on the part of the buyer to claim to the issuer that the cheque was lost/stolen/etc.

I actually have one of those "Cashiers checks" for $10,000 framed and hanging on my wall.

I was trying to sell a boat for $8,500 online. Someone contacted me and without coming to look at it, mailed me a cashiers check $10,000. They stated they could only be written in increments of 10K, and asked me to send them the remainder via a bank account transfer.

I immediately knew it was a scam, so I framed the cashiers check and hung it on the wall. It just looks impressive.

You gotta be careful with money orders and cashier checks. If you do decide to accept them, make sure you take it to the bank and have them authenticate it before you ship your product.
