Starting my own website?

Starting my own website?

Post wildbill0480 17/01/2008 22:15

It seems having your own website is one of the best ways to make money online. I am currently just on ebay. I would like to start my own website but I haven't got a clue where to start to set one up. Is there somewhere, or someone that I can get info for a step by step process? What kind of costs am I looking at for starting up and maintaining my own website? Thank you.

I would suggest using a shopping cart like CubeCart. I just set mine up ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members** This way you are in control of everything. You add the product, you set the prices, you set the look and feel of the store and your the boss. If your interested go to ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members** for more information. If you have questions email Pete at ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members** and let him know that Chad from Wholesale List 101 sent you. He will help you anyway that he can. He is very knowledgeable about this stuff.

Had a look at your website, are you using any dropshippers to supply products?

I just got on board and I'm looking for drop shippers too. I am using oscommerce for my site and it is almost complete. I only need to get the items to sell and make a few tweaks here and there.

I will take any advice I can get.

If you using drop shippers, give Craigslist a go, its brilliant.

I took a challenge up, never sold anything to do with bedding and a friend challenged me to set a website up and sell from it, did it! I mage £571 profit in the first 2 days, this was using Gumtree & CL only

If you are computer savvy you can pretty much do most things yourself, get yourself a domain name (I use 123reg.co.uk for uk domains and goddy.com for US domains) and then get yourself hosting with fantastico installed and you can install a shopping cart (Osc, Cubecart etc) with a couple of clicks...bear in mind that these will be base installs only though and some tech knowledge will be required to modify them. You can always pay someone to do this tho as it is relatively cheap to get mods/skins installed.

You then have the biggest challenge of getting traffic to your site, I have a few articles that may help on my site (I hope the posting of an information URL doesn't break any rules, if it does please delete link and let me know mods please). Take a look ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members** and ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members**.

Please do not hesitate to shout up for more advice as I am sure there is a lot of exp on here :)

I am building a website right now, and I am using Web Easy software. I used it 5 years ago for my first website and was totally newbie with computer stuff. I created a very good and professional website with a lot of good reviews for my site. It's easy and the software if you shop a little bit is around $ 30 - $40. You can have a free trial for 2 weeks with no credit cards or nothing, it cancelled automaticaly if you do not follow. Believe me it's worthed.

I am sitting on this product that I seem to have sleepless nights about- wanting to make my first sale... but I am getting so frustrated on creating my own website... should I just go with one already uploaded from a supplier and add my own product along with it... or is it pretty simple to get one going on my own.
I don't want to give up on this yet, but I am about to pull my hair out. HELP!!!!
Where do I start first?

network solutions is a great site, their customer svc is great and an set you up with a nice site that is really not too expensive, and comes w/security,discouts,manage settings, etc. BUT remember, once your site is up and is operational, thats just the start! I had a site up for 3 -4 months,it looked nice, professional, and had great items.THE PROBLEM...no customers,no sales! I had keyword, ytml, metatags, etc embedded in myy store, and i did have some lookers, and traffic, but NO BUYERS! i was paying for monthly searchengine optimization, thru network solutions, they set you up to google, yahoo, etc.BUT STILL..no buyers! The only other thing i could have done was to use google advertising, but that is pretty expensive. You pay per click, and to be rated up high in search results, you have to pay more.I was spending about $150 month for site upkeep, and meta, search engine products, and after 3-4 months of this, with no sales,it takes a toll.I hate the fees EBAY charges, but there is so much exposure there, and advertising,so it almost makes it worth it,at least for me it did.I still hope to have my own site once again, but it will be when i can afford to drive more traffic to the site.Goodluck, and be sure to look at ALL the angles, and expenses.
