Good Idea to Make Money

Good Idea to Make Money

Post mvm 26/01/2008 16:22

Hi Everyone
I went to JCPenny yesterday and I had an idea (one that has crossed my mind before) for selling products online, especially auction sites like ebay...

Now, I realize many people already are doing this, and perhaps many people on Salehoo have done this successfully as well, but here is my contribution...

I purchased a Liz purse on ebay for myself last week. I paid $29 plus shipping of an astronomical $13. The retail price was over $60, so the price is good for me.

Then I went to JCPenny yesterday and decided to go into the purse section. I saw very similar purses on sale for 75% OFF, some really good quality stuff they just wanted to move out the door to make room for the next season. A similar purse to the one i just purchased on ebay was under $20.

As a matter of fact, most of their winter stuff was marked down 75% and MORE.

Seems logical to go into these huge department stores and purchase end of season stuff at giveaway prices. Maybe some stuff you can sell now, maybe some stuff you will need to hang onto for the start of the next season (maybe 6-8 months).

The great thing about this is that the original Dept store tags are on the merchandise, with the original retail price. That is perfect for places like ebay, where buyers are skeptical if an item is authentic, esp with clothes and purses. You can prominently display a photo of this tag in your ebay auction and use the orig retail price to help sell your item (like, state in your ebay auction that you are selling 50% off retail - etc)!

This idea seems too simple, im sure, to most. However, im certain the person i purchased the purse from did this very same thing. And i still bought it and i am quite happy with the purchase. Not everyone goes to department stores at the exact time they are having their huge clearance sales!!! But if you do, you stand to make some decent profits.

A positive about this method is that you spend as much as you can afford, you know the merchandise is authentic, you can RETURN it for a FULL refund (keep receipts) if you cant sell it or decide it is not for you.

That is my idea to those thinking about starting out on ebay, who may not have a product supplier!!

Start out small, learn how to operate a business (cust service, shipping, packaging, listings, ebay rules etc). This all takes time and patience and you need to be willing to start small to grow big.

I hope these ideas help a few salehoo members out there. Good luck to all.

Sincerely,
Tiffany

Hi Tiffany,

Bringing the local market onto eBay is one of the secrets of the powersellers ... people who live in areas where there are plenty of retail locations need only save up a little money and bide their time. Better deals can be had at clearance, year-end, going out of business etc. sales than can ever be gotten from wholesale sources, and the merchandise is usually new-in-the-box.

This will also work for selling at CL, at flea markets, or anywhere else you can imagine.

This I have actually done on many occasions. Its a good technique . I also do this with dvd movies. When walmart releases a new hot movie I buy about 20-40 copies and resell them all for 1 day auctions around 2 an hour. I pay $13.99 for each one and usually sell most of them for around $19.00 to $24.00 each that very first day. A good way to make a few hundred bucks profit for a days work.

What great ideas everyone has. I always shop the end of season sales but I never thought of the movies! What do you start your auction at for the movies Jimmy or do you just use a BIN?

If you can afford the wait, it's also a plan to stock up on Halloween costumes and other non-perishable seasonals, then open up selling of them a couple of weeks before all the stores do the following go 'round. My wife has done this with Halloween costumes the last three years running and cleaned up. Obviously she avoids stuff based on that year's big movie and other things that are likely to lose their appeal within a year, and focuses more on the "perennial" Halloween themes like vampires, werewolves, Star Wars droids etc. etc. etc.

This sounds great, unfortunatly they do not dropship, and as I leave in Europe, even if they'd ship to Europe, import taxes would be unavoidable.

This is my problem to. I live in Belgium and if they ship something to me I need to pay a lot of import taxes.

Thats a fantastic post, only thing is it's available only tot he USA.

There are ways to earn $$ online, I can take a newby from $0 - $500 in 5 days AND it doesn't involve eBay! I have run this tactic for 30 minutes per day over 2 different months and consistently made $500 in ANY 5 days. Cost to set up ZERO!

PM me if you would like details. :D

This is true because department stores are still making (or should I say, not losing as much money) selling 75% off then selling a truckload to a liquidator...Many powersellers have been doing this for years. Especially those living in Southern part of the USA, given they are in a big city surrounded by deparmtent stores. The cost of living is low and prices reflect that market!
