Should I use Ebay or a flea market to sell designer clothing

    Hi everyone,

I purchased some so called designer clothing items from liquidation.com. I payed for a piece $3-4 including shipping. What I received is new and brand but not what I expected.....go figure. Now I am proud owner of 233 pc that I dread to list on ebay. I looked at prices and sold items and got scared. If I ever manage to sell for $7.99 a peace and charge $2 handling, I will end up making about a dollar after all fees are paid, according to calculator I found recommended by one member.

Today, I went to 2 flea markets in my Jacksonville, FL area and was not impressed although it looks like I could ask for up to $10 dollars for a piece.

Day rent is on smaller one $25, larger one charges $34.

Could someone with experience give me some hints here?

    Thanks a lot.

I really thank that the Flea Market would be your better choice. Remember eBay is going to charge you to list them, charge you a percentage of the final price, and then hit you again with PayPal fees. Why not look for some more deals and then once you have a good inventory on hand go and make a day of it.

You could also just try selling all of them as a wholesale lot on Craigs List so you can avoid all the fees that eBay charges you.

    Good Luck

Thanks for reply. I am hearing a lot about Craig List here. I tried once to sell washer and drier I have no use for using Craig's list and failed miserably because I do not know how to deal with more than one person wanting it. When first one did not show I just drooped it.

I mean, if I gave the promise that I will sell to one person, how do I deal with other interested parties without causing peoples to come to my house needlessly.

First of all I would never have them come to the house. I would arrange a time to meet during the day in a busy place like a shopping center parking lot. Inviting strangers into your house is just asking for trouble. You can set one day and one time for everyone to meet you there and be done with it.

Thanks again. I was thinking about your advice to get more stuff and make day of it on flea market....Do you really think that over 200 pieces of clothing have any chance to be sold in one day on flea market let alone more than that?

Excuse my ignorance, but I am really intrigued. I am definitely planing to go if for nothing just for experience. I can add lots of books and DVDs that I have accumulated over years and jewelry I bought from Midtown.

Do you really think I can sell?

We have a big Flea Market at our state fair grounds and it is packed on the weekends. We have did well there the times that we went. You meet all kinds of people and of course there are the ones that will try to get stuff for nothing. I would suggest trying it out once and see how it gos.

Using a flea market is great but you have to make sure to upsell your items. If your selling designer brands make sure you have that advertised in your booth right above your items. Make flashy signs letting people know they are getting a steal. If your buyer believes they are getting a genuine a steal they are more then likely to purchase.

Re: Should I use Ebay or a flea market to sell designer clothing

try a different auction site with less fees. I have some items on hopeiwin.com they have free listings and you don't pay anything unless it sells, they are fairly new but they also have automatic relists so if your item doesn't sell the first time around it is listed again automatically.

I think more people will make the move from ebay once other smaller sites get more and more popular.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks
