I hope you get some takers with this idea Donnie. Those that know me here best certainly know that I'm a big fan of networking, and this seems to be a pretty good opportunity or some members to share and all benefit.

I would draw our international member's attention to this one, especially in Australia. I'm guessing this is a US supplier, a with a very strong Aussie dollar sitting at around 1.08 against the US dollar currently, it could be a very viable drop ship option or import option.

Of course it would also mean less competition for both parties as you would both be selling in different countries.

That said, seems like a pretty solid networking opportunity to me, and people should at least learn a little more about it before simply ignoring it altogether.

Good to hear that all worked out well for you, but just a note for reference on future dealings with suppliers through sites such as DH Gate.

Two points, to ensure you are always covered use a safe payment option. This time you were lucky that you were dealing with a reliable supplier, but you will find a lot that aren't.

Use Credit Card where at all possible for all transactions or at the very least, use PayPal!

Secondly, I don't know where this supplier was from, but if you are sourcing genuine products then do not under any circumstances buy from MAINLAND Chinese supplier.

Many will tell you that the products are genuine, but despite the good service they provide, the products they sell won't be genuine at all!

I am a new seller and started buying from dhgate this past summer (2011), buying a lot of name "brand items" which I had no clue were knock offs. Well I learned my lesson because now there is a lawsuit pending with one of the real manufacturers. Do not buy "Name Brands" from DHGATE period!!

Hong Kong based member, free shipping, I doubt this is a drop shipping operation, but who knows.

Looking at the feedback against Their DSR, I would suggest that they aren't really worried about that level of negs, as their DSR is very high, so their trading capacity within eBay isn't under any threat at all.

Looking at the negs, not a single response to any of them either. Their listings suggest that they are a very caring supplier, very open to communication to ensure complete satisfaction. However, the arrogance that they seem to be treating the unhappy customers who are leaving negs seems to defy all of that, but looking at the numbers, that's not slowing down their sales whatsoever.

How are they doing it for the price?
Well unless it's a sales funnel where they are effectively converting customers into profits on other items, I have no idea.

In regards to the prices, as Frank has said. Realistically, the true value in any product is the best price that the market will sustain at any given time.

eBay do have a habit of shooting first and then asking questions later. Actually, that's incorrect, the shoot first and rarely ask any questions at all, as you've just discovered.

I have to admit, hard to imagine what has caused this reaction judging from what you wrote. I'm assuming this is a new account and perhaps this was your first listing?

If that is so, the only possible thing I can think of that would cause this type of reaction is that you listed a banned video game, but that will only usually result in the listing being removed, not account suspension, unless you do it again.

Can you fill us in on more details in regards to the listing. Is the account a new one, what was the game title, is it a new game, did you own it or were you drop shipping and so on.

Give as many details as possible and I'll see if I can identify a possible reason for you.

Now, in regards to getting your account reactivated. This is never an easy thing to do, but it starts with you having proof of of the products authenticity.

I've never heard of having to proof a video game is authentic before, but outside of that, I don't know what on earth the issue could be.

Anyway, drop us some details and I'll be better able to advise.

After reviewing Tom’s plan I was curious about how mine would work out. I don’t have plans on ever going to eBay, therefore I’m skipping sell stuff around the house. I am pretty good at getting an online store up using my own development skills and open source software. I have done it for others on contracts and thought “hey why am I not doing this”? My plan is as follows.

1.Do a fair amount of research to find a niche.
2.Secure a drop shipper.
3.Get domain and build online store.
4.Populate store with product.
5.For the next while optimize site and modify product accordingly
6.If site sells then think about wholesale lots or liquidated stock of same or similar product.
7.If not then change niche and start again @ #1.

My goal is to make $1000/month if more than great. I just need something that my wife can handle as a stay at home mom. Is this realistic or is my plan doomed by everyone else does this and fails.

The negative feedback items do tend to suggest that he's either dropshipping, our outsourcing fulfillment -- hard to believe that anyone vested in getting and keeping customers would send the wrong item so many times, send damaged items etc. Good eye -- I had not even noticed that.

Regarding your other point, I'm not sure 9jewelry is cheapening the product -- it's being sold for whatever people will pay for it. That is what I've always done with my own gemstone sales, and something you see very commonly in that niche on eBay. Penny auctions, dollar auctions etc. on items worth substanially more. If you look around, especially in the gemstones subcategory, you'll see it's pretty common. In this seller's case he's just being more aggressive with pricing in order to build the customer base to which he is presumably upselling.

You are right - this is VERY instructive if what you say is indeed what he is doing.

I noticed too that some of his negative feedback was from not shipping the item after it was sold or telling the customer it was out of stock. So I am assuming he's dropshipping.

His jewelry is very pretty and if it really is silver and real stones, it's a shame he has cheapened them AND the labor/artistry that went into making those pieces.

This is just a case where you have to look more closely at what's going on, to understand it. A search of 9jewelry's completed listings demonstrates that they lose money on pretty much every single order -- as cheaply as fashion jewelry can be sourced, it is impossible that they are ahead on volume (if you sort the listings from the search above by price, you'll note that of the last 200 sales fewer than 10% closed at over $5 -- take away eBay and PayPal fees, plus the cost of shipping and handling, and you're approaching if not at $5 right there without ever taking into consideration what the inventory costs.) So obviously, they are making their money on the back end of the transaction, and are simply using eBay as a cost-effective way to get customers.

This seller's listings are very instructive to prospective eBay sellers -- as I've said in many previous threads, getting hung up on items because you can't figure out how to make 100% profit on every sale is a shortcut to never amounting to much in the market.

I'm not a seller on ebay but I plan to eventually use it as a sales funnel to other online selling venues.

I was checking out the jewelry scene and I saw this:

This person is starting his bids at .01. It seems that on average, he/she sells them at an ending price of anywhere between 1.50 and as high as about $14

This just shows me how competitive ebay really is - I've read many of the posts on here stating that fact but this was such an 'in the face' example for me.

I suppose because of the huge quantity of stock he moves he is profitable - taking a hit now and then for some sales that never go much above a penny.

Questions:
1) Those of you into selling jewelry, are you selling on Ebay or mostly other sites?
2) If on Ebay, do you start your bids super low in hopes of a bidding war?
3) Do you have stock or are you dropshipping?
4) On average, how much do you make a month in the jewelry arena (whether online or offline):

a) 0.00 - 50.00
b) 50.00 - 200.00
c) 200.00 - 500.00
d) over 500.00 a month

My name is Tom, i'm a couple of weeks old as far as salehoo is concerned. So far I see there is lots to learn and I am organizing an outline of things to read in order so I can stay ontrack.

My first group of sales (outside the stuff I sold from home) will be in flea markets starting the end of this month. I am about to buy 3 wholesale lots of kitchen utensils from one of your suppliers. I couldn't believe that I could get so much for less than $100 dollars.

My next step after turning this $100 purchase into over $600 is to reinvest the money I make into my business so I can buy larger more profitable lots. I think this is a great way to get to finally selling on ebay if I want to. I will be moving to addoway before going to ebay though because I think other sites will teach me to market properly.

So my plan looks like this:
Sell products from around the house- COMPLETED
Research what sells at local flea markets or garage sales- COMPLETED
Check Prices-COMPLETED
Buy Wholesale Lots- In Process
Sell Lots at Fleamarkets or garage sales-
Use profits to buy larger lots-
Rinse and repeat

Move online after profit margin is over $700/Month
Addoway, Bonanza and so on Not EBAY Yet-
Create your own website

This will take as much as 6 months but your making money all the while.
You guys are the experts how does this plan look? How can I improve it? Please give me suggestions.

Hi Frank!

Thanks for the response. Our items don't fit the criteria that they have for the L.A. Mart. It does fit the CGS, which I visited at the end of Jan 2012. There was a lot of gift items at the show, and I think that our items will be okay. As it is our first trade show, I am not sure what sort of sales we will have. They do say that one has to do about two or three shows in a row to get established. We will see in July. :-)

That's very nice stuff ... unfortunately I just don't have the experience specifically with LA Mart to know. I'd suggest a recon trip to the next available show, as a prospective buyer, to scout out what kind of stuff is there already.

It would greatly depend on the dropshipper you chose to do business with. Shipping rates and time may vary greatly from one dropshipper to the next so it would be ideal that you contact each dropshipper that you find suitable to inquire about shipping rates and time.

May I ask what type of toys you're interested in? And is there any location you prefer? We would love to help you locate suitable dropshippers for your business.

Just to be clear, I do not have experience selling at trade shows, but I do attend as many as a dozen a year, mostly in and around Atlanta and the rest of the southeastern US.
