Re: Home Based Businesses - Are they a scam?

Home based business is never a fake, its all legit.
So im not quite sure what you mean by that...everyone who starts a home based business are legitimately trying to succeed.
The Scams are frequently in the companies that offer the dropshipping to you.
alot of these companies will basically make you a salesman for their profits, while yours is very very low for your troubles. In my honest opinion, the best way is to invest a little of your own money, use YOUR money to purchase from liquidators, and wholesalers, have it all shipped to you, THEN sell those items online and ship them yourself. Dropshipping ( and I learned this fast) is a scam.
    Let me explain.
If i walked into a Macys and said to its manager, " hey, i will sell your stuff to people outside of this store, but I will give you what you are asking for the items I just want you to give them the merchandise once they paid me", then Macys would say SURE NP. Why? cuz it costs them nothing to have you bust your behind for them, they still are making the money they are asking, it is upon you to ask for more in order to make a profit......Now listen to this....
The "smart" online business man does a little more homework...finds liquidated products from liquidators for example COOGI jackets at 2$ a piece but you need to buy all 400. so you pay up front 800$ then you decide to sell it for 10$ KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THE LOT WILL EARN YOU 4k. AND ALONG comes a person who sells by dropshipping and he gets the same jacket at a dropshipper for 25$ and tries to sell it on ebay for 35$ to make 10$ BUT......BUT yours is on sale at ebay for 20$.
He is screwed. he cant compete with you.
and thats whats happening right now. I won't name names but a frind of mine sells books on Amazon for 1CENT each, can you compete with that? NOPE.
But he bought millions of books from clearances with publishers and makes 5$ a book from shipping cost but sells them for a penny...dont believe me? go to amazon and type any book
so my answer to your question is.....invest i your own load of products, then sell them....forget dropshipping as a first timer its a scam.

Twentytwelve's right Million-ells, there are way too many scams to actually tell which one is for real unless of course you go through legit job sites.

So unless you know the guy asking you do a home based business, it is best to stir clear of them.

    All the best :)

Yep, I'll throw my opinion behind everyone else, hard to pick the scams from anything legit. Even if you get a legit one, they're designed to get you to do all the work for very little reward, if any at all!

Give them all a wide berth!

Re: Home Based Businesses - Are they a scam?

Well I guess I'm really confused now. I signed up with salehoo & even bought into their website opportunity to have a website to list products & find legit suppliers to get my products. I did this with dropshipping in mind because salehoo touts dropshipping as a legit way to profit. Now I see from this topic on "home based businesses-are they a scam?" that 2 of salehoos's staff members agree that dropshipping is a ripoff. Can someone enlighen me? I cannot afford $50 a mo. for the website if I cannot dropship & make a profit.

Re: Home Based Businesses - Are they a scam?

    Hi homeatlastgirl.

Let me just clarify our position in this thread, that is the position of Richelle and myself. We were not referring to legit Drop Ship business's, as are found in our directory.

We were referring to home based business opportunities that get advertised as big money spinners, when in fact they spin nothing but pain.

Drop Shippers in our directory have been verified as legitimate suppliers, there's a HUGE difference between them and what we were referring to here.

I hope that clears up the confusion for you :)

    Hi homeatlastgirl,

To further clarify Million-ells was actually asking about sites offering home based jobs/work opportunities as show in the post above :)

The topic does not in anyway pertain to starting your own dropship business.

Re: Home Based Businesses - Are they a scam?

It depends on what you mean by home based business there are alot of mum outs there including me who work from home now when i first started looking i kept coming across websites that tell you they can help you have freedbom and they give you a ebook etc. Those types are the scams they dont teach you anything and they dont give you ideas on how to work from home.Problem is these days most home business ideas have been taken and there is to much of the same thing. It took me months until i could think iof something real to do that would not cost me much. I went through avon you dont get anything out of it unless someone makes a order I went through herbalife you only get somehting out of it if someone orders but its well over done at the moment.I then thought of looking at website scripts and turnkey sites In the end i brought myself a auction site like ebay

You just need to google work at home ideas then look around again and see how many people do that type of business etc

Re: Home Based Businesses - Are they a scam?

It's not easy to find a good dropshipper. Most so called dropshippers sell on ebay also, so they sell the same items you are selling but for the same price you are paying.
An actual distributer / supplier or dropshipper can only sell to a dealer. They can not sell to the public (not supposed to) they all say they don't but most do.

I dropship and have been dropshipping for years, but before I found my dropshipper, I spent alot of time and money selling things for little or no profit & even loosing money after all the fees, it's not worth it. If you can't sell at atleast 35% markup forget it.
Between Ebay and PayPal they collect about 25% of your profit. Don't fall into the trap.
