anyone to start a new online action place???

Post territoryterror84 05/11/2007 03:39

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone out there was interested in starting a new online action place (like Ebay, but without all the crap that goes along with it?)
Seriously, if someone could make a new one and make Ebay crash, that would be great....
Like a place that doesn't have outrageous fees, a place that actually looks into matters before cancelling accounts, a place that is user friendly, a place that has regular 'training courses' at log in so people can catch up on all the new laws and fees associated with your account, etc.
If anyone could do that, sign me up, as I am sick of the 'big fish' out there sqashing us 'little fish' and having a bitch about something that isn't even happening!!!
If no one has the time/ etc, can you please give me info on how to do it myself and make it successful?? Thankyou :?:

There are tons of niche auction sites out there ... I own several, and a couple are self-supporting, which is super. But they can be very hard to make profitable. What you want to do (in my experience) is set up a site that caters to the niche to which you want to market, and make your money there being "just another seller" even though it's your site and you're providing a selling platform to others.

You might check out ** Link Removed: Only Available to Registered Members** I have customised PHPpb builds running on four different sites and have been very pleased with them.

Hey fm1234
I was just looking at PHPPORBID. Is it expensive to maintain such sites?I am toying with the idea of setting up an auction site.

Thanks

Maintenance is limited to your hosting costs and work ... PHP ProBid is a permanent licence, not an ongoing thing. Custom builds can get pricey -- I paid about $2,200 for the most expensive one I have -- but they are worth it if you want a unique look and feel for your site.

Thanks fm1234
Send me a link to one of your site so that I can have a look, if you you don't mind.

Sorry, but I don't "personalise" my businesses by linking them together or to myself via forums. There are numerous example sites to which the PHP ProBid site links, including both basic out-of-the-box sites and major custom jobs.

I think you'll also find craigslist has made eBay sit up and take notice. They even bought 25 percent of craigslist.

Really, what you're proposing takes alot of effort and time and there's already an existing database.

Bidville, its 100% fraud-screened and owned by uBid. Its got some good business going already, and increasing the amount of members & people going there will only make it even better. And its free, they use credit-phone checks to verify every participant.

Hi All,
I've been looking at another auction site which appears to be slowly taking off... I think what we all need to do is give these sites a fair go and try n get as much traffic away for ebay as we can. Helping direct traffic to these other sites can only help giving them a fair go and us the alternative to use another auction site that is Fair and give's more support to its users.
The site I've been looking at is:

http://www.oztion.com.au

The prices to purchase stuff are MUCH MUCH cheaper then ebay you could even resell some of these items again at a profit. Ie they have the red box set friends dvd's going for approx $120 atm they are selling on ebay for over $200!!!
Another bonus is that they only charge a fee at end of auction based on cost of item sold which seems much better than paying an initial fee and still more after the auction ends!!!

GIVE IT A GO AND HOPEFULLY US LITTLE FISH CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
