i used reserve option when listing my latest items on ebay. at first i thought it was a good idea but now i am not sure. i know that if my reserve is not met i don't have to sell the items, however, if the auction has ended can i offer buy it now wit a reserve price to the highest bidder? is that ok with ebay? like if a reserve price of 12.99 was put on an item but it was not meet by the highest bidder can i contact the highest bidder and make an offer with a buy it now of 12.99?

I really don't think that putting a reserve on a item as cheap as $12.99 makes much sense. I would suggest listing it at 99 cents and sell it to the highest bidder. It makes the auction seem like a much better deal.

i must have not mentioned that i did start the auctions at .99 with a reserve of 12.99. now any suggestions on my first question??

No you can't offer the bidders a "second chance offer" on an auction that did not end with a winning bidder. Ebay accesses that at "fee avoidance" and most likely you will get suspended if they find out. You can only make "second chance offers" to the bidders that made unsucessful bids on you auction that closed with a winner. In addition when making a second chance offer you have to sell the item to them at their highest bid,,,that is to say that if their last bid was $10.99, that is the price that you can offer it to them if you are willing to accept that bid..($10.99)

Putting a reserve in a listing can help you or hurt you. Alot of bidders don't like to waste their time putting in a bid if they don't really know what kind of price you are expecting. Sometimes expecially on low ticket items, it's just better to figure out what is the least amount that you would want to accept for the item and start the bidding at that price..That amount should have all of your fees plus at least a small profit figured into it so that you are going to be ahead at the first bid..

If you have an item that you know is going to do well and get alot of bids then a reserve can help you by allowing you to start the bidding at a low price, thus saving on listing fees and not to come up short on the final price in case you do not get as many bids as you expected..

I myself never use reserve auctions and would suggest that you not on small ticket items..

First off a reserve price for an item of such a low value is a complete waste of your money. The main reason your item did not sell was because of a reserve.

Most people on ebay will not bid on a auction that has a reserve. You will get bids. But your best bidders will walk if they see a reserve price. People want to know if they have a chance of winning right away.

If your item is that cheap and you dont think its going to beat your reserve , then you should be selling that item at all. :D

Why are you stating with a low reserve, why not just start the auction at 12.99? this will save you money.

Maybe its the content of your ad thats putting buyers off?

Use buy it now, or Ductch auction were you list multiples and start the auction as an online auction, ie 4 items at $12.99 start bid. That way if your ads any good and you get more than 4 people bidding the price increases.

However, I will NO LONGER be recommending Ebay to anyonther OTHER THAN MY Enemies....after the Halloween shambles. I sold over 3,000 Halloween items in 3 weeks, shipped them and paid £4,500 in shipping! Got proof of posting on every item and now around 90 people are claiming they still havent received their item even though 1 dumbo left me feedback stating they received the item and fast delivery!

Reading between the lines and the hazy emails, people DID get the goods , used them and now they want a refund so they can ship them back...a total scam and Ebay will do nothing to help!

Ive had numerous transactions disputed even though I know theyve been delivered, but Paypal does not recognise the Postal Service I used! So it looks as though I have to refund possibly £9,239 and make the claim against Royal Mail in the UK.

I will only be listing ebooks on Ebay, as under Paypal terms of service intangible goods are not covered for Buyer/Seller protection - so no one can claim not as described, not delivered, etc.

just so you guys know the items i placed on auction with reserve did sell at the reserve price and got a good amount of bids. that one item that did not sell and got relisted sold that night anyway. i think that if a customer wants a product bad enough he or she will get it. Reserve is a good idea and 12.99 is NOT to low a selling price!
