Help with my website and other....

Post FLessard 29/02/2008 23:54

I am trying to get some honest input on the look and feel of my website. Photos are coming to the site in the very near future. I had another website but I switched to another host and changed my domain name. Could some one please give me HONEST feedback on if I need to change the website and what I should include, change or whatever?

Also I am trying to find inexpensive ways of advertising the website. We have something called "Hampstead Day" in Hampstead, MD so my husband thought it would be good to sell the candles there. So besides public selling, does anyone else have any good ideas (online and offline)?

your main section is too high, going into your header and the bulletts need to be indented, use different images, same image looks like you only sell 1 candle.

I don't have any other photos. I take pictures of the candles as I do make them but my camera was broke when I made my last order. How can I make the photos look a little more professional? I can take the bullets away. Also, what do you mean the main section is too high? Are you saying that I should lower the main paragraphs a little?

I like it but the colors and text colors on the left and right blend too well. It's hard to read on my monitor. Also the candle safety stuff could be moved to the bottom below your pictures ? I would come up with a logo or something for the top. just my 2 cents since you asked.

I wish you the best of luck !

hi
i agree there is to much space in the header, either fill in the space or narrow it down. And i agree you need to have a variety of shapes and colours with your candles it looks to me you only have one style or shape with different scents. Give it a coat of paint to brighten it up, it looks a bit stale. Otherwise you could move things around, the safety notice could be at bottom of page.
good luck hpoe you make some sales.

Ok I redid a lot of it but not everything. Let me know what you think of the site now. I don't have a logo or anything, I will add one later. The photos I am still working on but I just need advice on the layout, colors and that sort of things.

First, the front page is too rough. You need to make it more beautiful, cuz this is where you welcome your customers.

Second, take photos of your candles by yourself, if possible. A carelessly taken picture can kill your business in the first place.

Buy a photo tent from eBay to take pictures of your candles with. This is a cheap way of diffusing light. If you take the tent outside, you don't even need lamps - and the end result is some really professional looking photos.

Another way and free way to diffuse light is to use a flash on your camera, I used an old SLR and covered the flash head with grease proof paper, this spreads the light for a more natural look.

Put a plain cloth down on a work top put the candle on the cloth and take the picture. You can get royalty free images, if you google it, another thought.

Also, does your webhosting not offer a free site builder software? This will help loads. It will be in your cpanel.

You can even try the bounce method. If you have a speedlight you can flip the flash toward the ceiling. With this effect the light is spread more evenly over the subject area. It wont work well if your ceiling is high like in my warehouse. If you have this situation I have a site you can visit that has a really cool techniques that can help you.

They have some really good techniques in taking great photos in low light situations. Here try this link Its a photo of me at night.
