Is this your job or hobbie?

Post Sands1966 28/08/2007 20:35

Just curious, how many of you do this on the side (hobbie) and how many of you actually do this for your job. Meaning your only income.
What can a person expect to make a month? :?

How much can you expect to make a month?

The simple answer;
How much can you afford to invest per month?

Actually, right now, not a lot.

if u havent got a lot to invest , why dont you start dropshipping as you wont have to deal with any stock and you will be building a customer base.
just make sure you pick the right dropshipper as you dont wanna let your new customers down, hope this helps

I know people who make anywhere from a few hundred dollars a month to 20 grand a month...

It just depends on what you are selling, how much time, effort and money you have to put into your business. Also what kind of products you are selling, (informational, physical)and the type of profit margins you will have for each product or combination thereof..

Most people start off selling small items from their home or gathered from yard sales, etc..doing it part time. Then if it seems to be working well, they invest a little more time and money into it..If it goes better, then some then merge into full time...

It just depend on all of the things I stated above. It is NOT a get rich overnight business. It takes a great deal of hard work, un-encumbered money to invest, and time to make it all work...

But you can be successful, if you really want it.
And there are plenty of people on here that are willing to help you along the way...

You won't get there with a greedy company like eBay I can tell you for a fact. Its a good stepping stone is all.

Consider it your get "your feet wet" plan, work it and sell your products right direct from you as time goes on....and use uBid also.

Persistence and consistent improving works for me...
Hi, this is my first post and I have only good things to say about this site, well done guys.
I just wanted to put in my 5 cents about eBay being expensive.
Sure it is, but if used wisely, it is cheapest form of advertising online.
Find your way of utilizing their efforts in advertising, as eBay actively advertises all their sellers' items online and off line.
If you read eBay's rules, you will find that you ARE allowed to take your customers away from eBay to any site you like, from "About Me" page.
Sure it is not easy to get there, but once you have many items on sale that you only brake even on eBay, if properly linked and advertised, you get customers coming to you at no cost.
Something to consider.

good luck

Ive actually done this part time. I work on salehoo and ebay and also sell locally. Just stuff I can buy from liquidation.com and other sites. I also sell through the newspapers. We make on average about $1500-$2000 online. Im greedy so I have to work as much as possible. It helps pay for the extended vacations we always take lol.

Hi all

im only doing this part time at moment hobbie sort of thing i guess you can say.

i have considered dropshipping only problem is it cost so muchto ship to new zealand for example i looked at a item costing $7.50USD but it wieghed like 0.60lbs shiping was going to be around $28USD changed to NZD all up $58NZD for something thats selling for $25NZD on trademe.

my question is is there a cheaper way of doing it (shipping costs for dropshipping)

any help would be great.
