Chinese Android Tablets - How good are they?

I realise that there are several different suppliers offering these; I was just wondering if anyone has any actual experience with Chinese-made tablets running Android. I need some for a project I'm brewing -- I don't care if they're particularly fancy; just need them to be functional and not have any fun suprises like crap backlights or a Mandarin-language user interface or anything like that. I'm willing to buy one or two at retail to test them out before diving in -- so any recommendations would be appreciated.

No personal experience with them Frank, but in regards to a supplier if you are going to take a punt, Sunsky would be the guys I would most trust in regards to quality at a decent price.

Re: Chinese Android Tablets - How good are they?

Many of these cheap chinese tablets that I've tested, can't even keep up with my android phone. The processing power is ridiculous. I'm not saying they are all bad. It's all made in china anyway. Sometimes they make 50,000 units for acer and an extra 5,000 to sell on the side, if you know what I mean. My suggestion is find a name brand tablet that is at least $300 dollars and look at the specs. Processor , internal storage, memory etc. If the chinese one is close to it, then it should be ok. You also want to make sure they are using a capacitive muti touch screen. They tend to skimp and use regular touch screens. Remember however that these things are difficult to update. Google puts out android updates for each individual company. Samsung has it's own update, htc, asus, acer etc. Someone has to take one of these updates and attempt to reconfigure it to this knock off device. So updates are usually extremely difficult or nonexistent. Hope this helps.
