    Hi raraz,

I'm a Xoom user and have been for quite sometime, however it is still a wire transfer service, so are far as sending money goes, if you don't trust the person you are sending the cash to 100%, there are no guarantees that they won't take your money and run.

When sending money your safest method is Credit Card, as you have the ability to cancel the transaction and file for a charge back if the deal goes pear shaped.

PayPal also offers a certain level of security, but Credit Card would be my choice.

What do you think is best payment rather than paypal like this, If I sell items to my customer, they should trust be. How can I proof my cust that I am real and will send the items to them. Is link hidden better than paypal. they don;t freeze your account.

You're going to have two major problems in trying to convince customers to accept making payments via transfer.

Number ones is that most will know that they have no security with that type of payment option, so simply won't buy from you to start with. Number two is the transaction fee on the transfer will be quite expensive, and that will just price your products out of the market.

Of course if you are selling on ebay.com.au, you have no choice, PayPal has to be provided as a payment option.

    Hi raraz,

Just to add a bit to what fudjj has already said. When you use PayPal especially outside of eBay make sure that your PayPal is linked to your credit card rather than your bank account. This way if anything does go wrong you can easily do a chargeback, because even if you use PayPal but your transaction is done outside of eBay and your PayPal is linked to your bank account you're not protected at all!

    Cheers :)

    Hi Richelle,

I have both my bank account as well as my credit card linked to my PayPal account. When I make purchases and pay via PayPal, normally PayPal withdraw money from my bank account. How can I set up my credit card as primary source? I am logged in to PayPal but I can't see any option.

    Thank you.

    Hi BrazilianLink,

I'm not too sure but this is what i found on PayPal:

    link hidden

Also, I read you can actually check and choose which funding source PayPal will use when you make your payments when both your bank account and credit card are linked to your PayPal account.

    "Payment methods
When you pay for something, the first thing we’ll do is check your PayPal balance to see if you have enough to cover the payment. If you do, we’ll use your balance to make the payment. If you don’t have money in your balance, you can choose to pay directly from your bank account or your debit or credit card.

To make sure you’re using the payment method you want, click More Funding Options or Change before you send your payment.

    Instant Transfer:

    * An instant transfer is an immediate transfer from your bank account.
    * You must have linked a credit card and bank account to your PayPal account."

    Hope this helps. Cheers!

Just remember PayPal is truly safe only when you are using it on eBay. but when you use it off eBay, their primary function is just as a 3rd party payments processor - without the buyer protection program.

Re: Is anybody familiar with xoom.com?

I am honestly wanting to know how the seller can be protected through paypal. I have sold 4 iphone 4gs in the lasst week (all that is permitted on ebay for new sellers) and even after sending phones and providing the proper tracking numbers that were delivered they dispute it and got their money back. I provided all of the information that was needed and asked for an now im out over 1200 dollars. I have had this happen before in the past and gave them the benefit if the doubt and lost again. How are we as honest sellers going to be protected but they allow the buyer scammers from all over the world to get away with it?

So yeah if there is an alternative payment source, please let me know. I have 1 one week found paypal and ebay to be very one sided and only looking out to protect their pocket books. No wonder the founder is running for politics.

    Hi melissa75240,

What happened to you is so unfortunate :( I have a feeling your iPhones were paid for by hacked (PayPal) accounts. As a seller no matter how honest you are when you meet such buyers you are really bound to get scammed and not siding with eBay or PayPal its also not necessarily their fault in cases such as these.

Re: Is anybody familiar with xoom.com?

I'm quite happy to recommend Paymate, have used them for quite a while and they deliver a first class service from my experience. Having said that, credit card fraud is an ever growing problem these days, and if you are unlucky enough to get it, the banks will come after you for the cash.

With my most recent business venture, I actually factored in a loss rate of 3.9% PA for credit card fraud, based on the information that my bank gave me in regards to the problem. If you accept credit card payments online, chances are now that you will be a target sooner or later unfortunately.
