Pros and cons of using Fixed Price? Auction Style?

    Hi everyone!

I am trying to decide what to do. Should I do fixed price or auction style?

I want to do fixed price but MAN! IT'S EXPENSIVE!

Any feedback on what you'd do?

    THANKS!

I would personally do Fixed Price...
Then add a couple of listing Auction style so your items are bumped to the Top of the search engine.

So when someone searches for items like the one you sell your item will show in the Very first Pages and you will get more exposure....

    More Exposure = More Traffic
    More Traffic = More Sales.

    Hope this Helps.

So your saying do mostly fixed price and a couple of auction style so I'll always be at the top or add features like free shipping to get to the top? Thanks!

Im not sure if Free Shipping will get you to the top,
But i know that adding a couple of items auction style will get you to the Top.
Thats what i do and it has boosted my sells quite a bit!

I agree with dilimited. These days, auction style listings are best used as advertising for your fixed price and store listings.

Even better, try and source a couple of brand name items to use as these auctions, as they have even more pulling power.

The days of using auctions for the majority of your listings are over and done with. I'm noticing that all too often, items at a $1 starting auction price end up selling for a price that's way less than they are worth!

Anyone else got thoughts on this?

Yes, good point. Best Match loves listings with lots of bids, so that will certainly help to shoot your listings to the top.

@dilimited, offering free shipping will in fact help your listings rank well, as this is something else that Best Match favors :)

Yeah, I'm another that works of a set Buy It Now price for store stock, then driving traffic to the store with some juicy auction listings where stock listings are also promoted.

Unless the market is hot, you're playing with fire going with a low start auction listing.

Fudjj - I totally agree with you but since 99% of my items are handmade I always start at 99 cents. And, being a Powerseller I get the discount on my fees plus high placment in the listing searches. When I have an item I want to get a firm price for I list it as a fixed price & run it for 30 days. It's worth the 50 cents for the listing fee.

    Hi DTS,

Have you always gone with that strategy or have you ever tried to set store stock?

Being a Power Seller certainly does afford sellers a good amount of flexibility when it comes to choosing a listing strategy, but of course it's impossible to have one rule for every product : )

Hi Fudjj. Yep I pretty much have always gone with that philosphy on starting my listings at 99 cents. As far as stocking a store full of product I simply don't have the time to sew that much stuff because I am also employeed full time as a sales rep-go figure. Everything I list is always ready for shipment to. i don't believe in making people wait for thier items.

I guess it just works for me this way!

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense DTS.

A sales rep, that explains the professional branding on the ebay site :). Of course I'm an old rep as well, what industry are you in?

Hey, I'm in no position to laugh at anyone, I've sold everything from shop space to dim sims lol.

Doesn't matter what it is that puts the cash in the bank, as long as there is someone to buy it : )
