Renting out a powerseller account - Is this a bad idea?

Hi all , I've been approached by " a guy " Who wants a long standing account to lease off me for a while to take advantage of my unlimited listing power etc , his products are legit and I would receive a good commission for doing not much , I was thinking while my account is idle for a while , why not keep the store alive.

The only thing that concerns me is, I obviously don't want to hand the keys over to someone else , is there some sort of way I can setup a Third party seller Account that I can delete if things go sour ?? or is this against ebay TOS

    Thanks for any advice

Fraught with danger, I don't know of anyway around the system by third party means. Something goes south with the seller and your account takes it in the neck.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be letting anyone use one of my accounts at any level, new or not. Been there and did that a few years ago now as a favour to someone and it nearly cost me all my eBay accounts overnight!

I don't think it would be a problem as long as there is a pull plug defense button that only you have control over if you are the power seller I would open another ebay account or use your present one and if something goes wrong you can always change your passwords to lock them out. They can't lock you out as certain info would have to be known by them to change it.

I'd have to agree with Marc on this one. You have to keep in mind that all accounts whether is be you primary or secondary are all connected so one mishap or problem then all your accounts will get affected.

Unfortunately there is no 'pull plug defense button' even if you block out the seller renting your Powerseller account damage has still been done to your account. You'd be lucky if you still have an active account after.

I would much rather rent my services in creating a store or a series of listings for a new member rather than having my account rented.

    Cheers :)

Hi Kalaboss, nice idea, but as Richelle has said, no such animal unfortunately.

You have two concerns with maintaining an account when dealing with eBay One is making sure that you maintain a good level of service to enable your business to survive and to grow. The other is having to keep your account up to eBay's own standards, aside from those of servicing your customers.

Damage to an account can be done in a heart beat if you trust anyone to use it other than yourself, and once that damage is done you have put all you accounts at risk, and eBay don't mess about. They will shoot first and ask questions later, well actually they don't even ask questions later....they just shoot and your eBay accounts are gone!

What many may well not understand, once you loose your eBay account you are not even able to use eBay to purchase items, you're gone completely!

Hmm I would be steering clear of that offer personally.

When you think about all the work you have put into your account - all the money, the hours listing, packing and shipping items - does the commission really seem worth the chance of jeopardizing it?

Exactly Alice! It just wouldn't be worth it. If only it were that simple, why not. But it's not and definitely not easy getting Powerseller status with all the new policies on eBay.

    Cheers :)
