How do I start sourcing products to sell?

I am new to salehoo and I just wanted to know how I can get started buying. Is wholesale or liqudation better? Also, I am looking for coleman stoves or levis jeans.

It's a popular question among new members, but to be honest it really depends on so much, where you are selling, how you are selling, your budget, what the market is like and so on.

It pretty much comes down to research to get some solid ideas.

If you are just starting out we always suggest you have a clean up around the house and see what you can turn up to sell, If you are selling on ebay that is of course.

It not only gets you feedback to get you started, but it will give you a little selling experience as well, and cost you very little in actual cash. It may also give you some leads on other items to sell.

For example, if you find one of your items attracts a lot of bidders then it would be well worth taking a look at that product to source and so on.

Think about your hobbies, and talents that you could exploit, that type of thing. Sometimes ideas come from the strangest places.

I've sold my coleman stove and my used levis jeans I might want to sell those type of things but I don't know where to get them or how much they are.

That's where budget, space and all that other criteria I mentioned in the other thread comes into play.

Buying in volume will always get you a much better price than drop shipping, but drop shipping is low risk, where as buying in volume is high risk, especially if you don't know the market.

Of course if you are trying to reduce risk, then reduce the investment to do some test marketing. What you have to remember is that the data you collect may well be misleading if you try to build a business model around it.

Of course buying a couple of items to test the market with will cost you more per item than the real wholesale value, so if you put them on auction at your cost price to cover you bum and got no sales, it wouldn't be safe to assume it's a bad choice of product based on that result alone, because a wholesale price would reduce the unit cost and may put it into a price range where it would sell!

I hope that made sense lol. If you can, find the product you want to sell, check your market place to see what the competition is like, check their products, their sell through rates, etc.

From there if all is good you finally need to make sure you can compete on price, that will give you a more accurate picture of the market potential and cost you no money.

lets say I find a wholesaler who sells levis jeans but what if the price is good but the shipping eliminates the money I earn on it

Business is about the bottom line and all costs have to be factored in, not just the product cost itself. If other associated costs make it un-viable, then it would be financial suicide to proceed with the investment.

I'm not aware of any personally, but the support staff may well have some ideas for you.
