Just wanted to stop in and say Hi. And maybe vent a little.

I've been working on setting myself up to sell on ebay for the last couple of weeks now. So far I've been selling a few things around the house, but mostly I've been buried up to my eyeballs in Market Research *groan*

My biggest problem I think is that almost all of my interests lie within the dreaded electronics market. Which I attempted to avoid as much as possible. But after drawing mostly blanks for good ideas outside of that area, I convinced myself that maybe if I dug deep enough into electronics maybe I could find a niche. But there's only so far you can go when you dig. I mean, what am I going to do? Specialize in pink incase brand cases for the iphone 5? :)

Anyway, mostly just wanted to vent a little and say Hi. So...Hi everyone :)

Hi mdwest, and welcome to SaleHoo

The electronics market can be a difficult one for sellers, but experience in a field does go a long way to anyone's ultimate success. If it's a genre you understand well, then I it's a genre you should most definitely seriously consider.

Depending on your level of experience, maybe surplus is a supply resource you could even consider to tap into. Of course with that market you will need to possibly repair more than you anticipate, but that's where you can make the money if you know what you're doing.

I do admit I have extensive professional knowledge about computers, previous to this I spent 16 years in corporate IT. My knowledge of cell phones and other consumer electronics is not quite as deep, it's more just my own interest in them, but still fairly thorough. I'm definitely a 'technophile'.

I didn't think experience and knowledge could make up for such a competitive market. Sounds like you do though, and you would know better than me :) Perhaps I'll keep digging.

Due to my limited capital to start with, I'm reduced to drop shipping only until I can generate some cash to buy surplus or wholesale. That will make it MUCH more difficult I fear.

fudjj and I tend to differ on this topic. I say, sell whatever will make a buck.

I broke my back for a year or two trying to break into computers and electronics. Fell back asswards into selling from Newegg when they were much cheaper than eBay on some niche computer products... 939 socket.
and video cards.

Buyers/Sellers in France and GB loved me.

That lasted about 6 months until my trick got found out.

I've become multi product orientated over the years and many times can tell if something will sell well in about 10 seconds. People smarter than me sometimes blow my mind with the ideas they have but for the most part I have decent ones.

Sell whatever the he11 will make you money is my go to theory.

Just to clarify, I have no problems at all selling whatever the hell makes money, kinda crazy if you can and you done't really. My point was that I wouldn't disreguard the electronics field if I had the knowledge and the resource to get into it, despite what is commonly said about it.

Knowledge and resource is a good combination to start with, no matter what the particular field.
