Hi there,

I'm just starting out and hoping to set up an eBay store. I'm not registered as a business and therefore don't have a VAT no. Is this going to hold me back? Will all wholesalers want to know a VAT no. when selling to me?

Jo

Hi Jo and welcome to the forum,

If you are buying through local Wholesalers, then you will most likely require a business tax id to open an account. If you are dealing with international Wholesalers, then you may not require it, it would depend on the supplier. Just to clarify, when I say wholesalers, I mean wholesalers, I'm not speaking about dropshippers or liquidators.

Some dropshippers may still require it, but not all of them will and surplus suppliers will not.

Cheers

Hi 7963, I've had an email shop for years and have power seller status, I started off selling vintage bike parts, so I never needed a VAT registration, just had a bookeeper do my accounts at the end of the year. I am too know looking at doing reseller on ebay, and it is alot harder than you think.....I have to be honest Salehoo your site is not great for people like ourselves, 80 per cent of your listed suppliers will not deal with me.... I've had replies from some companies, who in effect really selling Network Marketing sites - If this had been what I was interested in then there would of been no need to pay yourselves - Network Marketing shops are the latest craze, they sell it as drop shipping in a round about way, but it requires you to spam your facebook, Twitter and write blogs.
I found a supplier off here from the USA Luminence, who have completely ripped me off on shipping, this I know because, I deal with a company in the states already and they charge me a fraction of the price on a 5 day delivery... I also found the product on Alibaba for 38 pence per piece and charging me half the price of delivery on a 7 day timescale.. So so far Salehoo I have to be honest for the smaller start up reseller, your not really providing much of a service in listing suppliers who will deal with Newbies and any that will can really be found on Alibaba, and as long as you use their trade assure payment, your safe.
Prove me wrong please tell me where I am going wrong, I am always open to listening to advice, take my hand and guide us to suppliers who will deal with us, who have products that are not already spammed across every ebay search...
Also why do you not provide a forum for members to share experiences !!!

Hi Louisa,

Can I get you to clarify your points so I can better understand what the main issues are please.

You mention that 80% of our suppliers will not deal with people like yourself, what does that mean exactly?

You also mention you have issues about using Social Media for marketing, can you clarify why that is a problem?

Finally, you ask why we don't provide a forum for members to share their experiences. This is a forum and you have just openly shared your experience/opion, so I'm not sure what it is you are wanting us to do further in relation to another forum?
