Hi, I'm really new to Salehoo, and from my research I have discovered that there is not much of a profit margin unless you have a tax ID/ Resale License. I found a supplier @ Brybelly.com (without using salehoo) and I am interested in using them as a supplier. They require a "business name" and "tax Id or SSN". What are these exactly, and how can I obtain them efficiently?????????????? I am a resident of Illinois, and I plan to start up an Amazon store with their products. How can I get the information they require? Again, this is important as I want to deal with other "legit" wholesalers who require a tax id.

Thanks!

You can get a Tax ID number at the IRS website [url=Link hidden: Login to view A resale/sales tax certificate you'll need to get from the Illionis state government, but it shouldn't be hard to find. In most cases a TID will suffice; most suppliers who require them are less interested in the number than in buyers who demonstrate that they are taking organised steps towards running a real business. Given that a TID is free and incredibly easy to get, and the number of suppliers who won't deal with buyers who don't have it, it's amazing how many people don't get one.

Hi luker,

This permit is simply a certificate issued for a small fee by your state that declares you are registered to collect sales tax from your customers/buyers.

This license is needed -

* If you live in the USA or Canada. Most states have a sales tax, but there are a couple that don’t. If you reside in one of these states just let the wholesaler know and they may have a different form or requirement for you to complete.

* If you sell online to make money (i.e. You sell more seriously than just getting rid of a few old things from around the house every now and then). You need a seller’s permit so you can charge and collect taxes, which you’ll pay to your state government later.

* If you want to purchase goods wholesale from a US supplier (and you are also based in the US), you need a seller’s permit to buy wholesale sales tax free.

Occasionally you may run into suppliers who may also want to see a business license before they will sell to you. These suppliers will generally have large minimum orders and wish to determine that you are serious about purchasing their goods.

To get a resellers license you first have to enroll with your state tax department, which involves getting a Sales Tax ID number. Link hidden: Login to view

To get a reseller's license in Illinois, you can go to the Illinois Department of Revenue and to their website Link hidden: Login to view for complete information that you'll need. You can also call them at 1217782-3336 or 1800732-8866

And to get your Sales Tax ID number, in Illinois, here's a guide Link hidden: Login to view

And you can visit the State of Illinois Business Portal--Licensing website for information on small business licensing Link hidden: Login to view

Hope this helps. :)

From what it looks like, I need to register my business before I can get a sale tax id. Is this true? What are the requirements to get a sales tax Id and then the resale permit?

Hi luker,

To fully comprehend how these things go, have a read from

If you are operating your business as a sole proprietorship or partnership, you should register your business name with your state. Check the website of your state's secretary of state for more details.

If you are are operating as a limited liability company (LLC) or corporation, you don't need to register the business name, because the process of setting up the LLC or corporation includes the business name registration. No separate business name registration is required.
