Hi All,

I have brought some iPods from a Chinese wholesaler and upon asking for the tracking number (EMS), they have gladly provided it. It did however come with thge following comment 'the iPod order tracking number is xxxxxx, It even can't check on the site, I'm afraid it was confiscated by the Customs.'

When I go to the site, the tracking number does not produce any kind of record.

Would it be fair to say that if they had in fact been 'confiscated by customs' that the tracking number would lead to that point? Do you think I have been ripped off by the wholesaler?

Regards
Tom

Hi,

Did the wholesaler say it was confiscated in China???
Or in your country?

Check this link from Thailand Post:
Link hidden: Login to view

It provides EMStracking in over 80 countries.

If they send it from China and you live in USA it can be trackable at: Link hidden: Login to view
Remember that the shipment has to arrive USA to be searchable online!

All REGISTRED AIR MAIL, EMS and PARCEL POST shipped out from ASIA is trackable online.

Ask the wholesaler when he shipped it.

Good Luck

Good luck

first off, it takes a while, 1-3 days for EMS tracking numbers to show up. 2nd off, you are importing ipods from China? illegal! 3rd off, the supplier might be scamming you...and see this is another reason to not deal with China, bc they can easily scam you and say that the items were confiscated by customs. you can send me a PM with the name of the supplier, and I will be able to tell you if they are a scammer. anyway, if you are importing ipods, chances are very good customs will confiscate them. if customs opens your package and sees ipods, they will definitely seize the ipods, guaranteed, and you can get in some serious trouble. hope you have a good lawyer.

Yep, artpants is spot on, if they find ipods from China you're gone, and you could be facing some serious charges. Customs all over the planet are starting to really ramp up their efforts to get on top of this dealing in illegal products.

Thanks for the advice guys,

I had no idea that I could not import ipods, I've been told they are legitimate as opposed to copies. I have only ordered 10 for what it's worth (as apposed to a 100s). Does volume play a role in this?

I spoke wiha customs broker as well as customs who said nothing about not importing ipods.

So in short I want to have been scammed? Talk about mixed emotions!

The suplier is saying that the customs delay is at their end (China). I'm in Australia.

Thanks so much for checking on these guys for me, their url is Link hidden: Login to view. I'm not sure what you mean by PM?

Thanks again for the advise. I'm calling a lawyer now

Unfortunately Tom, although the supplier told you they were genuine, the chances are almost 100% that they are fake, especially if you got them at a good price.

I didn't realize you were in Aus, but our customs are amongst the worst in the world for jumping on this sort of stuff now, as I'm sure you would have see evidence in news stories and alike in recent times.

If customs this end do get their hands on them, you will never see them and you could find yourself in a very sticky situation.

Fingers crossed for you mate, but forget about importing brand name items from China, its a lost cause.

Thanks for all the help guys,

They are still un traceable so hopefully they have been stopped in China.

I ordered some branded polo shirts as well a few days after (before reading this forum) from China. Am I fair in assuming I'm in the same pickle with those as the ipods (from an Australian Customs point of veiw) or are there different levels of rigour around electronics vs clothing etc. Again, I was promised faithfully that they were real.

Live and learn

anything that infringes on copyright, clothing, electronics,etc..is illegal. there are not different levels, clothing is just as bad as electronics. anything brand name, wether it is brand name clothing, brand name electronics, have certain trademark rights placed by the copyright owner. in most cases, brand name goods are not allowed to be imported or exported(for resale). but if you are unsure about a certain product, just read the fine print about distribution policies that apply to that product. but in almost all cases, you are pretty much guaranteed that import/export is not allowed. if you go to customs websites for more info, you can read about plenty of cases where clothing and electronics have been seized, and the consequences of those crimes. clothing and electronics are the most popular categories. bottom line, if it is a brand name, dont import it. if you import a fake brand name product, that is the black market. if you import a genuine brand name product, that is the grey market. both black and grey marketing is illegal. there are some exceptions, for instance, you can import refurbished brand name goods, if they are certified refurbished.. so even if your supplier in china has genuine goods (which i am sure he does not) they are still illegal to import. you have to have permission from the copyright owner to import those goods. for instance, lets say i wanted genuine apple ipods from Foxconn, which is the actual genuine factory for Apple ipods, which happens to be located in China. i would have to call Apple and ask for permission.

First off, it is illegal to import and export electronics in and out of the united states as a citizen. The companies that do it have specific licenses and if your caught, the FBI WILL show up at your door.

The reason that I do not believe that your order was even shipped, because your not in prison. If customs finds those ipods and your name and address are on it, you ARE GOING TO be arrested. Do your research and you will find out this is true. I make alot of money on items I buy from Salehoo. If your not satisfied with a profit of 25-80%, then you should not be in business.

Good luck and stop being greedy and just work smarter guys. Much love and good luck to us all. Happy holidays from Midwest Liquidation Group.

Even with the clamp down the chance of you getting into trouble is remote.

If you are tagged you are likely to receive a letter from customs stating what occurred(Your items were confiscated) and probably a form to fill out as to what your side of the story is. By the way, I would take a screen shot of the sight you got the items from so you can show customs you were fooled yourself.

They are looking for big cases of buyers with a history of buying the fake items or huge orders like 100 or 1000 or more.

And like the others are saying, don't buy brand name stuff from China!

Trust me, I live in Australia also and whilst anything I have ever ordered from China has always got through customs - it's always been fake. We are allowed to import ipods but i wouldn't bother unless it's from somewhere like MKenterprise who stock real items. Even when they tell you it's real, it's not. The dead giveaway is what seems to be a good price!

I am a little bit confussed, if I buy an ipod from a chinese seller on ebay, will that cause the same problem?

I live in Canada, if I import multiple iPods from US but without any permission from the manufacturer or wholeseller, will that cause any problem?

thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks guys for all your advice, it really saved me from lot of trouble.

I am a new member and just like some new starters was thinking about importing iPODs and designer brand name clothing from China wholesalers. I emailed chinese wholesalers asking them questions if they can provide the certificate of authenticity for each item when they will ship the products. And their answer was this 'there products are all made for USA only, there is no difference between original ones and replicas'. This was a red flag for me.

I would appreciate if anyone would advise me where to get wholesale brandname clothing that I can resell for a reasonable profit on eBay and other auction sites. And if there is anyone who would like to do a joint venture for trading I would be happy to join forces. :)

hey.. my items never showed up either... it is hard to trust chinese factories. i got done by $3500 AUD trying to import stock. they lie, giving you a false tracking number, then nothing, this bloke even gave me his phone number which i called and all... just be very careful... such a big sum of money broke my heart. apparently suppliers on this site have reviews of the sorts, so can be deemed more trustworthy..

goodluck..

Don't make the mistake of trusting a company just because it is listed here because there will be a combination of scams and repro companies listed, especially from China.

Even if a member on here trys to sell you something, I would skip it unless they have gone to the trouble of registering as a reseller here on Salehoo. Even then I would still be asking others if they have dealt with them before.

Some scamers think that it is good value to pay a couple of dollars for membership when the site is fertile like this one. We all do our best to weed them out, but that can only be done effectively if everyone speaks up when contacted with a sus deal.

It's really important that members don't get greedy if they get a PM, thinking that someone is just going to do them the deal, because scams work best when no one says anything.

You get a PM like that, shine some light on it in the forum so we can get rid of these idiots.

Quick tip about importing from China, if it's a brand name product, forget it....FAKE!

China is a great place to source products, but they seriously have to be no name stuff, branded items are quite simply fakes. Of course as you have found out, then you still have to work out if they are a scam or not, and there is no shortage of them out there.

Everyone here helps each other out, so if you are thinking about dealing with any company, listed here or not, just post the question and you will get some feedback.

This is very true. We get membership applications all the time from companies and we add many per week. They may check out when we do a test buy from them but that doesn't mean they wont turn to crap two weeks later.

One thing I cant stress enough. Do not reply to a member that does not have registered seller under their username.

We are one of the most highly visited sites by members wishing to find a product source. So a $69 membership is nothing to a scammer to jump on here and take thousands of dollars from members before a mod can catch them.

If any member contacts you through PM and tries to sell you anything. Report them to me or another mod. If they post anything on salehoo offering the sale of merchandise or states they can help you. And they are not a registered seller. Report them to me or another Mod. And those posts will be deleted.

Do not buy from anyone not registered as a seller. We get dozens of applications per month and maybe only 1 or 2 get accepted. We have a very strict series of checks before we list anyone as a registered seller.

We do our very best to protect our members but even our very best cannot stop this online problem.

Importing from China! where too start???
I have had both good and bad dealings with china.
Having lost 400usd, not the greatest amount but still a loss.
I live in Cyprus by the way so import rules differ.
It is 100% impossible to get branded goods from mainland china unless from the oem factory.
I have bought many mp4 players the same as apples spec and appearance. I simply get them unbranded.
they still sell. As long as you are honest and sell them for what they are no problems. I am only referring to my country, as i do not know your laws.
Mk enterprise are reliable but very expensive for small time buyers.

You not getting the number to show up in customs could mean one of 2 things. You was given a tracking number just to throw you off with suppliers no real intentions of shipping, or it has not been entered in the courier database as of yet.

If 3-4 business days has past and th tracking number is still not showing up then I would guess that the supplier has not shipped your order as of yet becuase if it was held in customs, it would say that in the database on the courier website, or when you call them of a legitimate tracking number.
