Hi Burr12, and welcome to SaleHoo.

What we first really need to establish is what sort of supply platform you are wanting to use?

From what you wrote, I'm guessing you may well be looking at drop shipping products on ebay, in which case you may well unfortunately have a hard road ahead of you in sourcing much that can make very much on a site like ebay.

If you have some cash flow, then you may well benefit more from buying wholesale or liquidated products.

Just fill us in on a bit of background and we'll do our best to get you some good, solid advice : )

Well the first thing I would say is that there would be zero opportunity to drop ship ipods on ebay and make any margin at all. You're talking about an extremely saturated market with electronics, and anything like ipods, iphones and the like top the list.

If drop shipping is the avenue you want to use as a supply avenue I wouldn't have a clue as to what I would suggest as far as products go. Ideally you need to find the more niche type items, those that have a market that is under catered for......not an easy thing to find when you are talking about drop shipping.

One of the problems with drop shipping is that anyone can do it with little, or absolutely no upfront cash. Of course what that means is that almost everyone does do it lol, especially on ebay, and with so many people all over the world looking for their own niche product, you end up with everyone pretty much trying everything.

Some other members may well have some ideas on products you could try, but I couldn't suggest anything specific unfortunately.

    Hi Burr12,

If you're looking for a simple way to start a business, then I recommend selling stuff on eBay from around your home that you no longer need anymore. In the process, you will often stumble across items that sell really well that you would never have otherwise picked. Everyone makes mistakes when they start out and it’s best to get some practice – to find out what sells best – before you start investing in inventory and selling seriously.

After some practice with goods from around the home, you can start buying small wholesale lots of products. One idea is to sell very ordinary, everyday items, products that most people use on a daily basis. Many of these are excellent sellers, plus they are fairly easy to get hold of.

    Eg.
Clothing: accessories, plus sizes, maternity, night wear
Kitchen: recipes, knife sets, toasters, microwaves
Beauty: sunscreen, insect repellent, cosmetic & toiletry bags, men's grooming
Homewares: towels, sheets, rugs, throws, cushions, vases, mirrors
Special occasion: wedding supplies, party supplies, mother-of-the bride outfits, bridal shoes, birthday cards
Garden : lawn mowers, gardening tool sets, composter

At first, sales may be slower as you get to know your market, but in the long term, you’ll be able to target your market much more precisely and reduce the chance of having stock on your hands that you can’t shift.

It's also a good idea to keep tabs on what is happening in the news if you want to pick up on new trends. The trick is to analyze what you hear and read for product opportunities. For example, is global warming causing water restrictions in your area? Good products to sell might include garden hose timers, low-pressure shower heads, water purifiers and so on.

    All the best!

Look at it this way, what are your interests / hobbies?
Is there something you like to do and have some knowledge of?

Knitting, cycling, running, speaking, pet grooming, office work, labourer?

Focus on that first, survey the market and see what is currently being advertised in that area and if it matches your interest/s and you see others are selling, perhaps target that?

I eventually plan to branch out and sell more than just consumer electronics, but I am sticking to something I am familiar with and can provide answers on if someone asks me about them (so far so good on the answer front).

    That's my 2cents.
