Greetings!

In the excitement of getting your eBay business underway, it can be easy to forget about the growing pile paperwork that comes with an increasing number of sales.

As your business grows, it's very important to keep track of the accounts and sales that you make. But unfortunately, the more things you sell, the more useless My eBay becomes.

Keeping track of 10 or more items at any one time on My eBay becomes very messy indeed. Large scale listings require the appropriate software and systems in place to ensure that you don't get hopelessly confused!

Luckily, there are now lots of specially-designed tools out there to make your life a whole lot easier! That's what this newsletter is all about.

The tools available fall into two categories: those which eBay provides and other tools created independently of eBay and available on the Internet.

eBay's Tools

Turbo Lister

eBay's Turbo Lister is a free listing tool for medium to high volume sellers.

Turbo Lister helps you create professional listings and upload thousands of items all at once! It can be used alone or in combination with a sales management too including Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro.

Turbo Lister has an HTML editor, allowing you to create a listing with formatted text and bulleted lists - just as you would on eBay. It shows you the auction listing just as you would view it on eBay, making it so easy to prepare all your auctions offline in one go.

This tool helps save you heaps of time by letting you do cool things such as duplicate one list and then go through and change the specifics, or set up defaults for auction duration, starting price, payment instruction and much more.

Selling Manager

Unlike the Turbo Lister tool, Selling Manager isn't a separate tool that you download. Rather, it works as a subscription-based service that you pay a monthly subscription of $4.99 to use.

It actually takes the place of your 'All Selling' links in My eBay with Selling Manager links.

Selling Manager separates all of your eBay listings into 'views' to help you manage your scheduled listings, active listings and post-sales activities.

Selling Manager let's you track you listings, track and manage post-sale activities, printing invoices and shipping labels, and automate some post-sales tasks.

You can give Selling Manager a test run of 30 days to see whether it works for you. Just remember to unsubscribe if you don't want to use it - otherwise eBay will automatically begin charging your account after the 30 days are up!

Note: You can also get a special deal where you get access to Selling Manager and Blackthorne Basic (below) for only $9.99 per month.

Blackthorne Basic (Formerly known as Seller's Assistant)

Easy to use HTML templates let you create professional-looking listings. You can choose to automatically insert payment terms, tax, shipping details and much more so you don't have to enter it again and again for each item.

This is also a great way of keeping track of all the sales you can make: you can go back and check up on any details you need easily and without rifling through masses of paperwork.

Leave the same feedback for a group of buyers with one click, print shipping labels and customize email templates.

You can either sign up for a free trial or download it for a free 30-day trial. After that time you will be charged $9.99 per month.

Blackthorne Pro (Formerly known as Seller's Assistant)

If your sales are reaching power-seller levels, you may want to consider upgrading to Blackthorne Pro. It's a bit more pricy at $24.99 per month, but it lets you do far more than Blackthorne Basic.

As well as all the tools that Blackthorne Basic provides, Pro lets you generate customized reports, assign individual start times for each listing or group of listings.

If you have employees working for you, then this tool allows you to assign different logins for different users and customize the views and permissions for each.

Comparing eBay's Tools

Note: All eBay's tools interconnect, so if your needs change, and you decide to switch tools, then you can import items from one to the other.

Workbook

Write down your software requirements on a sheet of paper. What features do you NEED? What features would be USEFUL?

Now compare your list to the tools available. Which one meets your requirements? Which tools meet your requirements plus giving you a few extra toys?

When starting up your business, it's important to not rush in and pay more than you can afford for a tool with more features than you need. For all businesses, it is vital to economize whenever possible in the first year of business so that profits can be used to increase stock and marketing.

Useful Links

BUT...eBay isn't the only provider of seller tools. Next week we'll be looking at what else is on offer. How do they compare with the eBay ones? Find out in newsletter 22!
