Selling branded items on eBay

Is it true that if you sell branded items at a low price on eBay your account could be restricted?

Hi James,

Not necessarily but this may catch the attention of VeRo's and likely competitors whose market gets threatened because you are offering the same branded item for a much lesser price.

eBay is highly committed to providing a safer place for buying and listing items, as well as assisting third parties in protecting their intellectual property rights. There are certain rules that you have to watch out for and compile with when listing a brand name item. Also, be ready with your proofs of authenticity such receipts and documents.

What you have been hearing with regards to severe limitations being imposed by eBay on listing branded items are very true.

It is understandable why eBay would be taking steps to show that they are making an effort to guard the site listings against counterfeit/fraud items.

For years, eBay has been in and out of European and U.S. courtrooms, sued by companies trying to put a stop on the sale of fake versions of their legitimate products. At one point eBay was fined 1.7Million Euros or 2.5 million dollars by a French court and was ordered to pay luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH). You can sell branded products but you need to prove that the items you are selling are purchased from an authorized seller or liquidator. As Richelle has mentioned, get proofs of authenticity. You can also request for an invoice and show a photo of such receipt in the eBay auction listing.
