You might want to try selling things that you have laying around your house and garage. Everyone has things that they no longer use or that they thought they wanted and bought but never use it..This way you will get a feel for how ebay works and build up some feedback at the same time. You will also gain some experience so that when you do find a product that you want to invest some money in, you won't be starting out blind...
I always suggest 'everyday' products. Things that the common person uses everyday. Alot of people don't live close to a mall or shopping center and shop online. They can be your customers..
I also suggest staying away from popular electronics such as cell phones, gaming systems, designer clothing and handbags, 'branded goods'. These types of good have very low profit margins and are high in competition..
A good way to get ideas on what you might want to sell is to browse through the 'completed listings' on ebay's 'sitemap' page..The sitemap will have a link located at the top of every ebay page..Once on the site map page, 'completed listings' will be located in the first column on the left side of the page. Click on that and then just browse through the catagories that you might be interested in. I think it's a good idea to try and sell something that you have an interest in. This way you normally already have some knowledge about the item and this will help when your customers start asking questions about the item...
When you do find something that you might want to sell,(in the completed listings) pay close attention to the auction listings discriptions, font colors, benefits of the product and things like that...These are things that made the listing a successful...The final price will be shown in green. Browse through a few of the listing for this product and see what the average selling price is for that item..This way you will know ahead of time what the item is selling for on ebay. Then if you can find the item at a store or from a wholesaler, liquidator or wherever, you will automatically know if you can sell it on ebay and make a profit....Also when doing your research don't forget to allow for the cost of you auction listing fees and final value fees and compute this into the cost of the item...Once you do this you will know if the item can sell for a profit...
A few popular everyday items that alot of of sellers overlook are childrens clothing (new or used), baby supplies, pet supplies, kitchen decorations. Also dont forget to look into 'accessories'. If you see a particular item that is selling well, try to think about what accessories go well with that particular item...These items are often overlooked, yet 'aftermarket' products make up sales in excess of 75% of the sale of the actual product....
You might want to try one of Jimmy's profit packs from macy's. They have a large profit potential and provide for a very low investment...You might want to check out their post which is located at the top of every forum start page:
