Vintage Vinyl Records: Sell as Lot or Per Item?

Hello everyone. New to Salehoo (3 days old)... seeking advice.

The past days, I'd been wondering what to sell on ebay... like most people wonder when they join Salehoo, right?

Anyway, I'm looking for cheap buys and lo-in-behold... I discover in my local Craigslist a collection of over 600 12' vinyl records for sale plus a cheap record player that works, & some 45's, some 78's... and the first $250 takes it all. The records are mostly rock, classical, & blues... a majority are artists I recognize. (B.B. King, Yes, BeeGees, etc.)

I know I should have researched it more... but something in me was screaming, 'Do it!' And I impulsively raced over and purchased the lot. But now I'm wondering, with all I've read about selling collectibles on eBay from this site, if I've given myself a headache.

Should I attempt to auction them piece by piece for $2-5 bucks each? Some will sell, some may not... but I guess I could potentially make more money... but could take awhile.

Should I just resell the lot on ebay or classifieds or Craigslist? Shipping the lot could be expensive. Those crates are heavy!

What would you do? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Panther. The first thing I would do is research on eBay how many people are selling vintage records. Check to see if they are selling them in a lot or singly. Then you can check the completed listings to see what they sold for & how they sold.

Always list on multiple sites like Craigs List, free classifieds, Bonanzle etc. That's more exposure for you. If they sell on one site & not the other just remove your listing.

Chances are you are going to have some gold, and some rubbish in amongst that load.

If you don't need a quick turn around I wouldn't consider ebay. As designer said, I would consider the free listing options and list individually at around $5.00 a LP at least.

Hit some forums with the right theme to promote your booth, as well as taking advantage of as many free listing opportunities as you can find, and see what happens.

If things start moving you may be able to stay with the theme, and start hitting some garage sales and the like, picking up music style memorabilia to build on it and find a real loyal following.

One thing about a themed shop like that is that it always develops a hardcore group of followers, and people like that are always happy to push your products to others they meet with the same interests.

I think you picked a pretty good place to start, low buy in with a stack of potential that could lead to far more than just a quick profit!

I've decided to sell them individually, starting with the free sites before I spend a dime on eBay.
