Just thought I'd share some tips that I've pick up whilst selling on eBay :)
1. *Snap!*
Pictures are one of the most important aspects to consider when selling online. Personally, I think the safest and most effective way is to take your own pictures as opposed to taking someone else's images. After all, you are in charge of your own store, and the last thing you want is to be chased down for copyright issues. Make your images clear by using efficient lighting and an uncluttered background. If you're selling clothing, you could also spice things up by posting images of the clothes with accessories. For example, you're selling a plain black evening dress- add in a clutch bag and a necklace to the picture and this will tickle the buyers imagination and get them thinking about their wardrobe. "Woah, I could totally rock that dress with my snazzy blue necklace!"
2. Blah blah blah… Too long, can’t be bothered.
Your product descriptions don’t need to be accompanied by lengthy paragraphs. All it takes are snappy and clear descriptions that give away pretty much everything the buyer needs and wants to know. Don’t keep it too short though. Think about eliminating the chances of the buyer contacting you because you’ve said it all in your description. We know how frustrating it can be waiting for a reply from a supplier- this is just the same as the customer waiting for a reply from you. Which brings me to my next point...
3. Communication is the key
Care about interested buyers and gain their trust. Build rapport with them and they’ll remember you and come back. If a potential customer messages you and you don’t have the answer straight away, don’t keep them hanging- let them know that you’ll find out the answer and will be in touch with them as soon as possible. If you leave them hanging, chances are they’ll walk away.
4. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer
Research your competitors. Monitor their strategies, spot their weaknesses, learn from their mistakes and grow your business.
Anyone with other tips, feel free to share! I'd love to hear more so we can all learn from each other :)
