I haven't started an ebay store yet, but I am selling on there. Just started a little over a week ago. So far I've listed like 13 items, 2 have sold, 6 haven't ended yet... at least as of the last time I looked.
Some of the inventory I ordered has come in, so I'll be putting that up for sale soon. My sister is even helping me sell some of my inventory (body jewelry). She took 100 pieces tonight to take to work with her and sell them to her friends at work. Apparently another guy there is selling ugly, cheap stuff for way too much, so we're undercutting his prices, and I'm not losing any money on the deal. Even offered my sister a cut of the profits in cash or merchandise.
My suggestion to anyone wanting to start on ebay is DO NOT open a store right away. Sell and buy little by little, building up your feedback. You don't want to lose money by paying for the store, plus ebay fees, plus paypal fees, and not sell much.
Also, dropshipping isn't always the way to go. It kills your profit margin. Its better to invest a little money in some inventory (even just a few dollars for gently used clothes at yard sales and thrift stores, clearance racks, etc). I've been working on cleaning out my family's closets, finding stuff that we don't need or use anymore to sell. My sister is also having me sell some stuff for her, and I'll get my ebay fees plus a portion of the profit from each sale.
I wish all luck! There's more than enough room for all of us to succeed...
