Sorry about your trouble. you should probably just write it off as a learning experience, if you paid a one time fee. If you are paying an ongoing fee for membership and hosting, etc, I would cancel all of that...
The trouble with most of these types of sites is that the people selling these sites are making their money from selling the same sites over and over. Plus if you are trying to sell their products from that site, they are making money as a middleman from those products....You need to be selling your own products, at the prices you can make a decent profit at..Most importantly if they are listing the products for you to sell, then the market is going to be extremely saturated with other people trying to sell the same thing..That is going to cause an extremely low profit margin, if any at all...
As I have said before, with any site, in order for it to be successful, YOU have to have control over the site. This means that not only should you be selling your own products, but it's a dire must to have some sort of control over the admin page...The reason for this is that software and programs often develop glitches and such and you must be able to go in and not only fix these things but make changes and add content pages, links, products and such..
Often, even if a 'canned' site does have decent support, they often sell so many of the same site, that they can't check all of the sites, all of the time, to make sure that everything is running properly..This is why you must have control, so you can keep the site up and running 24/7...
It's hard to build up and gain traffic to your site, and when the traffic does get there and something is not working on the site, most likely they won't be back...
Another thing, and this is most important. Anyone telling you that they are going to submit your site to the search engines, and especially if they are charging you a fee,,are just jerking you around...
Most of the time, these people, just take your money and don't even submit your site to any of the search engines...And even if they do, it won't make much difference....It dosen't work like that...
Your site has to be 'indexed and ranked' before it will even start to show up anywhere..And in order to accomplish this, you need to have good content pages (containing good keywords)(and it's better if you don't try to use the most popular keywords that everyone else is using), Next you need to have good links to other sites (try to get some links from sites that have a good ranking) and also you need to ensure that your content pages have good relevence to your product..By this I mean that within you content pages, you use your keywords and describe your product items description, benefits, features and things like that. Don't just try to stick in a bunch of psyco-babble keywords like you see on some sites. Use your content pages to enrich your products, etc..
But you have to do the above things or the search engine spyders will never find and index and rank your site...
If you build good content pages and good links (especially good links) the spyders will search and find your site. If you have really good links, the spyders will mostly find the site on their own, which is a good thing...
But it will be very hard to depend on whoever sells you a canned site and be sucessful. They are too busy promoting selling the sites(which is where they are making most of their money) to spend any amount of time doing the things to get your site a good listing, and keep it up and running...
In addition to the above, try different ways to drive traffic to you site..Use newsgroups, your about me page on ebay, classified adds, exchange links with other sites, anyway you can to get the word out...
No, it's not easy, and it won't take place overnight. But it must start somewhere, and you have to take charge and get these things to happen..If you have a problem with something, just ask on the forum, there is usually someone on here with the answer or at the very least, where to go to find out...
