I was doing some researching about and found out few good companies whom are able to dropship there products in Australia. After that I went for live chat with ebay Australia and gave them all the links of the companies I want to do business with. In reply they said you have to import the products and keep in stock and then you can sell it on ebay, dropshipping is not allowed. I want to know if there is anyone who has this experience could help me out.

Wow, very interesting post, and an even more interesting response from eBay. I know well that they aren't happy with Drop Shipping, however I was not aware that they had made any policy changes to in fact ban it altogether.

If I were you, I would be making another inquiry. One thing about eBay support, you ask the same question 7 times, chances are you will get 4 different answers.

I find it almost impossible to see how they could police such a policy, unless the started banning sales from a different item location to your actual address. Would be very interesting to hear anyone else's experience regarding this.

I agree with you guys. I tried searching for an answer to confirm the reply Shilby got from the eBay rep but nothing leads to confirm that dropshipping is not allowed.

So far, dropshipping is allowed - it is referred to as 'product sourcing' on eBay. They even have a how-to guide through this link:

Hope this helps! :)

Yup, she obviously had no idea what drop shipping was when you asked her. It's sad that eBay puts their members welfare in their reps that obviously lacks training in some areas... :(

Thanks for sharing that with us, Shilby! Cheers :)

Hey Jenna,
check this link it doesn't say anything like that. I'm for sure the ebay agent you had a chat with doesn't know anything about it.

Yes, all this really does highlight the terrible customer support that gets handed out, what on earth is going on with the training over there, absolutely bizarre.

I must admit, found myself on the end of some absurd responses from eBay customer support over the years. Like I said, you have to ask a question multiple times on occasions, then average the different responses to work out what you trust as accurate lol

Seriously, good business starts with good customer support!

I agree 101% fudjj! It all boils down to the quality of customer support you are able to provide. Ample training should be provided to ensure that the fore-runners are equipped to responded correctly at all times. It's funny knowing the lack thereof on eBay since they are a big company and can certainly afford to train their reps :)

So if you can, always do your own research too! the eBay help center is a good place to start.

Cheers!

From my experience all you need to do is state in the where product is located form of the listing. SO if you product is coming from Germany and you live in the US, simply state so in the where product is located.

I've sold hundreds of products through drop shipping.

Yeah, I would follow the advice Planes has given there to be honest, forget trying to get any sort of sense out of them. Mark your item location correctly and you are under no obligation at all to tell them where on earth you are sourcing your supplies.

I would be completely stunned if tis was an issue, then again I stun easily at times :)

Yes that's true, there is no option when you create your listing that lets you indicate your supplier type. But your supplier location is very important so do as planes said in his post.

I tried searching through the eBay.au help pages but no is no mention of dropshipping whatsoever.

I don't think you will get in trouble when you list products from a dropshipper so long as you adhere to the policies. We have a member (but I forgot who) who mentioned that he dropships his products from www.oo.com.au - so clearly he is sourcing his products from a drop shipper yet he is still selling on eBay.au

All the best!

@Jenna

Consumers getting the short end of the stick from sellers who can't verify the condition or even the availability of the product has led eBay to make some changes on dropshipping. Having to state whether products are inventoried or dropshipped was part of the proposed changes for the summer back in March-April, but whether or not it was made policy is unclear. As much as I dislike eBay, this is one of their few changes I'm actually all for -- it is absurd how many people seem to get into dropshipping without ever actually testing out their suppliers, ie. having some orders placed to see about fulfillment times, general item quality etc.

@auskiwi

Basing a business model on "what you can get away with" is not the best plan.

As a eBay seller i am responsible for the sale not the drop shipper
therefore a seller a has to thoroughly checkout the drop shipper's reputation
and that is easily done following other sellers feedback etc Salehoo directory
also where possible order a product from them cost is a factor of course in that exercise
As a eBay seller you can not afford even one mistake as it is their for the world to see!!

I totally agree with you fm1234 that if you are going to use a dropshipper that you first try the products yourself.

I'm from Australia and I looked into using an American based dropshipper for things such as ebay and my personal website. (so an international based business)I wouldn't be able to use the dropshipper to sell in Australia however. - Postage is too expensive. But I did buy a couple of products just to test the quality, which I was happy with.

I have tried a couple of times now to sell these items from the dropshipper on ebay but have had no success :( I must be doing something wrong.

I would love to find an Australian Dropshipper but I am having so much trouble. Hence the reason I've signed up to Salehoo.

auskiwi i do wonder how Ebay can control all the listings posted to look for such things as identifying sources etc.

If one is drop shipping it is paramount to ones survival to know ship times and inventory. A seller can make very unhappy customers stating inaccurate ship times and having items show up more than a few days late.

Ebay allows for up to 30 days to ship an item and I would advise anyone to know the average ship time and then pad it by several days. So if in normal course it takes a drop shipped item to reach a destination in 2 weeks, stating 17 to 20 days would be wise. Then, when the item arrives earlier than stated, one has a happy customer.

There is nothing wrong with or bad about drop shipping. Some of the largest retailers do it themselves whether through fulfillment companies or out right drop shippers such as D&H.

The trick is finding the solution that will provide what you need.

How would Ebay even know if you do dropship? If you have a reputable company that is reliable and they are out there as I use some myself, and if you are dilegent in checking the people you are dropshipping from have not run out of stock of an item you have listed, Dropshipping can be done no problem at all. It is benificial to you as the seller and also the consumer as they have access to anything all over the world. Also if you clearly state that shipping is 7-10 days and the customer knows that it will take this long, its all good. I cant wait for more Australian dropshippers thou :)
