Good day to my SaleHoo family:

I'm new to SaleHoo. I was thinking about finding an item, listing it on eBay, and having it dropship to my customer. But when visiting different forums, I found many people saying that dropshipping on eBay is not a good thing, because of negative feedback & you run the high risk of your eBay account being suspended. I'd like to know if this is true.

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum

The important thing to realize is that dropshipping has it's advantages, but also comes with its disadvantages. In business, being in control is what it's all about. It's how you steer your business to ultimate success or completely off the road and into a ditch!

One of the big disadvantages of dropshipping as a business model is your lack of control. You're relying on a third party to keep YOUR customers happy. Remember, their YOUR customers, they aren't the customers of the dropshipper themelves, that's YOU!

So straight away you see the potential problem, if your dropshipper starts letting you down, then that flows straight down hill to your customers and ultimately into a pool of discontent that lands on your door step and you can't simply can't say that you're sorry, but not your fault. They're your customers, so it's your job to keep them happy.

So there is the disconnect!

So in answer to your question, is it true .... absolutely. In fact I would say there would be many that have fallen into that trap. Many think dropshipping is just an easy way to do nothing and make coin, unfortunately, not much is that simple!

Thanks 4 your advice on that topic very informative.

I was also told that it might be better 2 start buying items in small lots
and list it on ebay and if it sell well buy the item in larger bulk send it 2 amazon
fulfillment service and let them dropship to the customer. How does
that sound 2 you

If you are thinking small lots, I would suggest looking at surplus suppliers. Via Trading, H&J Closeouts and Topper International are there verified suppliers in our directory. Do some surplus market research if you are going to go that way because you need to fully understand the type of stock you are buying, but some good opportunities in the liquidation market if you buy smart.

Once you're rolling and then dealing in large wholesale purchasing, then fulfillment could well be a good option for you to consider certainly.

Cheers

I've look @ ds domination & that's one of my concerns: price competition & very small profit margins. Ebay takes a cut, paypal takes a cut & I've been told that if you'll new to paypal they will hold your money for as long as 90 days. I've also been told that's it's best 2 sell an item for more that
$35.00 to get free shipping. Ebay & paypal fee's can go as high as 13%, not counting shipping if you sell below $35.00, plus ds domination monthly fee. One avenue I'm looking @ is retail arbitary

I don't know DS myself, but can't possibly imagine how on earth there would be any profit using this method at all. What sort of direction are you wanting to head in jermezw?

Typical PayPal hold for new accounts is 28 days, there would have to be some major issues to stretch 90 days.
