Somewhere I found a list of 50 alternatives to eBay, but I can't remember where, it also had a description of each, any ideas?

Hi AustGarageSales,

It's here - Link hidden: Login to view =)

Ubid, Amazon, Oztion and EBid Auctions are among those listed as alternative sites for selling. There are also notable suggestions from SaleHoo members.

Richelle had also shared in a previous forum post this survey result from the Jan. 10th issue of AuctionBytes, where over 1,400 sellers rated eCommerce marketplaces. And from her post I am re sharing this list of the best eCommerce sites to sell at for 2010. Link hidden: Login to view

Please update us on what worked best for you.

Kind regards,

Irene

Hi AustGarageSales,

You might also find this auction site watch chart form Powersellers Unite helpful when choosing your alternative auction site. This chart is updated on an hourly basis so the data is fresh and to the point.

Walmart Classified is in Beta mode for free advertisements. WQhile I do not know if this will evenyually lead to a new source to find buyers or not, I do know Walmart has the resources and name recognition to make this big. So this might be something to keep an eye on for the future.

I would like to try selling some video games on Craigslist. I am gettig them from a dropshipper and could potentialy make some money instead of ebay and their charges. After adding ebay charges i would make a bout $1 0r $2 per item. The problem is payment with Caigs list. If I want them to use paypal how should I do this. also craigs list says cashiers checks are usually scams, what about pesonal checks? Make sure they clear the bank first. Will they trust me to send the product? They say to meet in person but I am not going to do that for a $30.00 game. I could talk to the person on the phone after contact? Help.

Hi sandyh4,

Since, I haven't really used Craigslist as my selling platform, I did a little research and found a thread you might find useful. I have quoted 1 of the posts on that thread as a reply to one of your questions.

[quote='GRBoutique']Does Craigslist allow you to sell to distant buyers? I mean if you're selling let say clothing for example, will they allow this? and how about payment options? There are alot of scammers on craigslist too and craigslist suggest that to sell locally if you're selling goods am I correct? Any thought on this Graham? =)

Yes, you are correct, I sold several swords whilst being in the UK, to US residents. Basically, I got the suppliers from Salehoo, created a webpage and linked it to CL, then added Paypal as a payment link - the thing I found that worked well, was when my goods were shipped - I immediately forwarded the tracking number to my customers, giving them piece of mind and knowing they could trace the item - I never had a problem. :D

But, back to your question, CL is supposed to be for local people selling locally, but you can sell globally. 8)

For most sellers (even suppliers) that do accept check's they would often state it in their FAQ section that the goods will only be delivered or shipped out once the check payment clears. I think both are relatively safe so long as you don't ship the items before the payment clears at your end. Once the payment has cleared you can immediately provide your customers with a tracking number - this will reassure your customers about their purchase being shipped to them.

You don't necessarily have to meet with your buyers. But make sure you provide them with your contact details (email, phone) so that they can contact you anytime they have a question/concern regarding your products.

Here's the thread I mentioned earlier:

Hope this helps. Cheers!

P.S. Please try to adhere to the thread's topic when posting. Your post would have been more ideally posted as a new and separate thread. This is to ensure that proper attention is given to your concerns.

I haven't used it, and while it is often touted as the best option outside of eBay in Oz, the traffic flow isn't in the same postcode.

The positive is that the site is a free listing site, so what do you have to loose apart from some time.

Until these types of alternative sites get volume sellers using the service, they will never draw good traffic numbers unfortunately, so it's a real catch 22.

Hi pcostie,

You might find this blog post interesting and helpful:

Link hidden: Login to view - It also has a list of other equally good alternative auction sites for Australian sellers.

We also have a number of members who are selling on oztion, might be a good idea to search through the forum for more details.

Cheers! :)
