I just deleted my store, I do not think baby products was a viable theme.

I tried for 3 months, without results.

I advertised with Google Ads, Bing Ads & Pinterest.

Advertising cost me $1000.00 without results as my budget was low.

SaleHoo was fantastic as a start up, but did not help with advertising.

Sorry to hear you deleted your store, retailer...

I actually thought your store was set-up rather nicely and I liked the products, I'm a fan of anything babies :)

I know paid ads should bring in more sales, but there are free ways you can market your products and many seasoned sellers still do some of these free ways, should you reconsider opening your store you might find this handy - Link hidden: Login to view

I tried to delete my store, but I found out that I did not actually deleted it and now have to pay the $27.

I wonder if somebody can tell me "How exactly to delete" my store ?

I am still high on the merits of Salehoo membership & considering re-activating my store, but not with baby gifts.

Any suggestions?

Hi Retailer,

Are you currently selling on platforms like eBay, Bonanza and so on?

The failure of the store may not be down to the products themselves, could well be that the marketing wasn't working. and when that's happening it makes it seriously hard to generate traffic to an independent site.

It could be a great idea, if you weren't already doing it, to use sites such as eBay to generate traffic flow and create and customer base. Once you have that in place, you can then network through social sites and start using everything as a sales funnel to your store.

Takes more work, but costs far less and gives you a real chance at building something up. Launching a stand alone site on a limited marketing budget is about the hardest way to get into an online retail business, I think you need to rethink the strategy and perhaps try to crawl before taking a leap like that.

I tried Google Ads & received no orders

I kept my Addoway Store for economic reasons & am using Bing Ads, without any immediate results.

RE: E-Bay, I placed two personal items on E-Bay & sold both.

Fudii I am not ready to pack it in, but ads cost a lot & have produced no results in 4 months. I am hanging in for the Holiday Season.

I also placed items on Pinterest & Facebook.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Hi Neil,

I would suggest a change of tact, move away from trying to establish an independent website and use other sites to do your marketing. As you have highlighted, it can cost a small fortune to market your own website by advertising and it takes time, so a limited budget will get eaten up quite quickly and will usually care little or no results at all.

Even though you've only had limited marketing on eBay, you seem to have had positive results, and I would encourage you to seriously consider using that platform, along with the others you currently are.

Yes, with something like eBay the competition may be strong in your genre, but the traffic flow is already there. You of course have other factors to consider, such as making sure you are competitive, you provide a first class service and that you look for every possible edge to give you an advantage over a competitor selling in the same genre.

Develop a mailing list of your customers, send out a monthly news letter with bonus offers, special member;s discounts and so on. Market the fact that customers need to join your mailing list to receive the great bargains on your listings, eBay and the others. Start to build up a customer base, from which you can then funnel to your own site over time.

I would definitely suggest a rethink in this area for sure, that road you have been on is a really hard one mate.

No problems Neil, just remember that you have to be competitive an all fronts on a site like eBay, so really good a good grasp of who you're competition is there and run with them.

Just a tip, if you find that you can't match prices with your competitors on the items you want to sell, consider bundling as an option. Putting two or three other relevant pieces together with an item. easy to do if you are drop shipping all the items from the same supplier and you can cut your margin back by making profit on one or tow of the items and then leaving the other items you have in the bundle at cost.

The trick with this marketing strategy is that the items have to be completely relevant to each other. They almost have to be something that someone would buy to go with the original item you are selling. If you can do that, then the customer will do the maths and work out that tey can take your bundle option cheaper for what they can purchase each individual item for from someone else.

Even if you are competitive with individual prices, you could offer your subscribers special discounted bundled offer to create repeat sales. Have some fun with your customers, create a club for them to subscribe to, not just a simple mail list. Baby items, pick a cute name for the club.

(Snuggle Buggles) for example... btw, I want 10% if you use that lol

Create a colourful and fun newsletter and make it fun for parents and family to join, and they'll subscribe. That right there is the beginning of starting your own site!
