hmm well your pretty much screwed. Hopefully it was not allot of money. This is yet the same reason I tell people to stay away from paypal. They will rob you blind.

I have no advice for you. If its a large sum of money I say sue them. Dont waste your time on the phone with them as they will give you a loooong run around. I had to file a big lawsuit against them. They released my money the same day they got the summons.

Jimmy, I've got really frustrated with Paypal lately, too. Is there any alternative you'd suggest? Thanks in advance.

Merchantinc.com is pretty good. The only bad part about it is they charge you around 4.25% or something if your customer use a credit card with reward program. As for normal rates, I think it about 2.39%.

Thank you for the recommendation, I'd look into the site, as I'm just desperate to go for anything beside this Paypal's nightmare!

Planes is absolutely correct on this. It happened to me & I told them I was new & I was selling things around the house etc, etc etc. Maybe I got lucky but they unblocked my account right after I talked to them. I am sure looking forward to the new payment options because PayPal will be history from my auctions.

I got away from paypal very quickly after they screwed me over for thousands. I now use Merchantinc.com to get my transactions handled.

I get emails from Ebay and Paypal similar to these alot. I do not log in on Ebay or Paypal from the links on the email. They are almost always Phishing attempts to get your passwords.

Paypal is trash. I use them very rarely and its mostly on ioffer.com or to buy something in specific.

To receive payment I always use Amazon Payments and have never had any trouble with them. Also 1st data payment solutions.

Both of them offer total security with only a credit card most of the time, otherwise I take money orders, without issue.

As you should have as they were holding, if I remember correctly, 25,000 dollars of your money.
In your case, it was the amount of money in such a short time from several different sources.
I am not defending Paypal in any way. I just know your experience certainly raised some pretty big red flags with Paypal. And you had to start legal proceedings with them right, before they released the funds.

I think they were being a little sleazy with you and trying to keep the funds.

The sit with Paypal is to play their game if you want them in your business.

And until recently, they were the only game in town as post 07 eBay accounts are required to use Paypal.
If you have an 07 or older account you are OK as you don't have to use Paypal. eBay account

Actually PayPal screwed us all in that deal, jimmy ended up having to return all the funds to get it resolved and PayPal hit us for transaction fees...lol

It turned out to be nothing more than extortion!

I have left PayPal for good now, we still have an account but I just leave it to other people now, sadly for them. Saying that I have more than paid my dues with them, spent countless hours on the phone to customer services, having my account limited on launch dates for businesses, money frozen etc

I have switched to google checkout and Link hidden: Login to view and they are both a lot better!

With online banking now though you can pretty much pay anyone with a phone call and I think the banks will set up something to rival PayPal in the economic state we are in at the moment!

There are ways to work Paypal to your advantage.

If you set it up correctly you will never have holds and you can still operate on eBay even with a new account.

Paypal is really really bad though Planes, so that is truly giving them a benefit not deserved.

I definitely moved to Merchant Accounts.

Amazon payments, Google Checkout, 1st Data Payment solutions I can take any payment type including credit card- never had a problem.

Before when I was eBay only, I had to take ONLY Paypal, or Propay, both take a huge commission for processing the fee. BIG problem!

In fact I am looking at ways to drop Paypal alltogether, and use Google Checkout exclusively for any very large transaction.

There is not any real processing fee and they can never just freeze your money for no reason at all, it takes alot to cause a problem with them. And for really large payments definitely 1st Data payment solutions, I wouldn't trust anything less!

Absolutely Paypal sux. But for people here they are still looking to sell on eBay
and right now you have to have a Paypal account, especially for a newbie eBayer.

And now eBay is making it tougher for sellers to obtain merchant accounts.

If you are new to eBay, Paypal will be OK if you start slow and stay on top of things-ship fast with tracking through Paypal-be ready for limits and slowly make your way to 100 FB.

If your going to sell on eBay this is the price you have to pay.

Yeah that's the price you have to pay to deal with eBay.

I hate how eBay makes ANYONE jump through hoops to get approved to do anything with a merchant account, why!???

Don't they know everyone hates it? All the sellers hate it, I'm sure the ultra veterans hate it the most.

Having to prove you're not some criminal or going to 'steal from them' just to be able to use a merchant account on eBay is deplorable. It's the reason they can never get into the direct sales market, their rules are too difficult on the public.

Their competition's rules offer no such limitations as in that world, direct commerce is based on how many methods you have to pay and to resolve all disputes. Paypal doesn't exist in that world.

Yeah but you know what was worse planes. They charged me $1400 to accept that money and another $1400 to release it after I paid $205 For Lawsuit proceedings. And $99 for a courier to deliver the subpoena to chicago.
I had 3K of my own money in there before they pulled that crap and lost it all.

I don't remember the details but the suit was for illegal seizure of funds, and the demands was immediate release of the funds or they would be sued for $1,000,000 in damages. I actually had help from a lawyer on paypalsucks.com he helped me draw up the papers. Funny how the money was released the same day the courier confirmed delivery of the papers.

And all this was after I faxed them Proof of Ownership to the company and all kinds of legal crap.Spent 3 weeks talking with one idiot to another getting lied to by every single one of the management crew, acting like they were on my side yet letting trust and saftey email me BS every time stating not enough information supplied.

4 Years of membership with them and over $100K in transactions done with paypal and they pull that crap on me.

Hell those jackasses knew everything down to the color of my underwear.

They are cons plain and simple. They freeze your account an milk interest off of your money.

Now that is a major rippoff.

I don't know what this is about but it happens at yahoo too. Mistake with yahoo shopping network said I couldn't get in right now, then they refund my money to Paypal.

Paypal automatically holds it all this over a lousy $80 and I had just settled the whole thing with my earlier supplier. I was like 'What the hell is this!??' as it makes no sense- Paypal should have no business with it at all. It should have just been reversed instantly and so I filed a charge with Yahoo, now the funds have to be released.

Jimmy, they are SOBs Bast@rds. That P%sses me off to no end what they did to you. I didn't no all that crap!!! Well you know, look at eBays stock which is Paypal stock too. 12.19 at close today. Amazon is over 50, so it goes to show if you screw your customers over(sellers) then eventually its gonna come back to haunt you.

You should still sue those M#$$##$%ers on principle.

Well eBay is still a good place to sell I am not going to be in denial. Its just lately eBay with the whole paypal thing has taken a downturn big time, I've sort of gone on hiatus from there due to the rules situation and well Bonanzle, iOffer and Amazon too are so huge now they're kicking its but.

Well not Bonanzle on its own, but the combined competition is gonna take a toll on management there. I don't see why they didn't drop all this arm twisting & just allow everybody to use a merchant account a long time ago. Really poor decision in my opinion.

Jim Cramer from street.com gave some interesting info on Amazon and then added a ding to eBay as a broken format.

I wish I still had the the link to the video.

Sure did & I have it updating every night.

Well, that's actually not enough or that is not how ecommerce works.

You see, whether its with iOffer or Bonanzle you do have to use Froogle/Google Base to get results extra fast.

But you have to pick the right keywords also, and Froogle isn't the only thing you should use.

Once you get into selling on a place like iOffer, you should get an account at the official shopping directories like 'SHOPZILLA' and the like, there are alot out there to choose from. Get an account with the ones which are the least expensive or free, then upload what is called your 'SHOPPING FEED' to the stated directory.

For instance on each site there will be a place where you login as 'merchant'. You to that login screen, and THEN login, then if you bid on some keywords, do that & add your shopping feed. The shopping feed is a document/template file- has every single product you are selling in alphabetical order according to price & quanity. Has description, product ID, number being sold, and where they ship from/shipping service.

Of course this is much better just in direct sales, or straight across selling which is identical to Yahoo shopping, Big Ticket Depot, Amazon or Clickbank & BluJay.com

For auctions, it isn't really as much of a help anyway. Auctions follow an entirely different format though this certainly still helps.

But what I notice, is with direct sales its much easier. And direct sales is real ecommerce ie: instant commerce by credit card; whether that be People Search, Affiliate Product, Big Ticket Depot or anything else which is at a fixed price and is not meant to be nor supposed to be auction.

That is where your keywords bring in the results.
