After the dedication of putting a professional nice looking site together with the products I want to sell, what is the realistic traffic that can be brought to the site with SEO?

I read it's better to dropship a higher priced item even between 100-300 dollars minimum rather than say a profit amount of 30 dollars,,as you will have to bring alot of traffic and convert more of that traffic to make any money...

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Kirsten

I would suggest looking at Link hidden: Login to view as a possible option for you Kristen. If you need further you can PM me and I'll give you the details of the web development company that I personally use for my projects who do SEO.

Regarding your second part, I'm a skeptic of that theory. The best way to convert sales, no matter what the price, is to offer a professional image, service and offer value. It's good old fashioned business, but its worked for years and will be working for plenty more yet.

TrafficTravis is really good for keeping track of your keyword rankings in Google. Except you have to change the delay to 20s or so or else you will get blocked. Many sites charge a fee for that, and the free ones only update weekly or maybe every 3 days. I haven't found much use for it otherwise. The other things it's supposed to do, it doesn't do very well.

Hi Mayra,

SEO is designed to rank your website higher in search engine listings, so that of course means that the chances are far batter of someone finding you through that method. However, I would suggest using Social Media avenues, as well as marketing through other sites such as eBay and so on as a pretty decent option to gain exposure.

eBay will not allow you to add an external website on any of your listings, except if the external site can add more information about the product you are selling.

Thank you,

Hi Greg,

It depends on the type of listing, for example you are permitted to list contact details on a classified, you can see my listing here as an example

Link hidden: Login to view ... 1555.l2649

If you can do classified advertising, you can even have hot links built into the listing so customers can click through to your website from the listing. So if classified listing is an option for you, I would highly recommend considering it as a great marketing tool, we get the vast majority of our website traffic from eBay through our classifieds.

Now that is only for classifieds and that option is only available on limited categories. So if you are selling in a category that doesn't permit classified listings, a little trick is what is called crumbing, well at least that's what I call it lol. It's all about leaving hints without stepping over the line, a trail of bread crumbs for others to follow. A good way is to link an email account to your website, so if you had a site called Link hidden: Login to view, you would link an email to that, for example Link hidden: Login to view

What you then do is use that email address for your eBay account, you will usually always get away with then also listing it in your item's description. For example, thanks for visiting our store or listing, contact us on Link hidden: Login to view for further information. Some times you might get pulled up for that, some say they have, I certainly never have and have used the technique for years on non-classified listings.

What you can then do is bait the listing, so you say something like, plenty of other great bargains in store, what that does is flash a light to anyone who knows anything about the Internet, because when they go looking for the other great bargains and can't find any, then they will usually put 2 and 2 together and follow the bread crumbs to gregssstuff.com through your email address.

It's not a 100% effective way to drive traffic from your listing, but it's all about those little 1% things that all add up over time.

We should also not forget the power of Facebook.

FB for Business is already a major player.

1. 400 mill and rising.
2. Everyone has around 100 friends.
3. People spend an average one hour per day on FB, everyday!
4. FB has continual improvements and features being updated, straight to your cell phone.
5. Features like connect and fan box keep it ahead of the game.

...and all this for free, virtually! When is the last time you read a company name? FB or a classified? :)

If you're talking about the most effective way, then seriously good ongoing SEO would be at the top of the list along with a Google sponsored advertisement. Of course those two options would also be the most expensive by a very long way. So it's kind of a balancing act when marketing a website, how much traffic can you attract for the budget you have to spend is probably the best question.

Hi Dan and welcome to the forum,

Take a look at Traffic Travis, it's free Link hidden: Login to view

There are a multitude of ways of generating traffic, most of the really effective ones cost serious money of course. You need to get Social Media as involved as possible, that's good free marketing right there.

Not sure if you are using eBay at all, but you may find this helpful Link hidden: Login to view

Sorry to be the one to disagree here, but SEO is not a marketing tool on its own and won't bring hoards of traffic to your website. Trafficdavis suggested above is a tool which still holds an outdated view of the metrics surrounding Google search and keywords. Google has all but gutted SEO over the past few years and now focuses more on content generation.

That's not to dismiss the importance of good SEO, but generic keywords aren't going to do it. SEO is part of a larger, more comprehensive marketing strategy. However, when you do SEO, focus on your niche. Better to bring 100 customers looking specifically for your product than 1000 gotten there by clickbait or generic keywords.

Marketing from a sales position is all about creating the idea of value in the buyers mind. SEO alone won't do that.

Welcome to forum James and thanks for your point of view.

I agree 100%, SEO is not a complete marketing strategy on its own and I wasn't suggesting that it was. Members are always encouraged to avail themselves of multiple marketing techniques to accomplish an over all marketing strategy, but we mostly focus on free or extremely inexpensive strategies, as most of our members just don't have the budget required to market themselves in the best way possible.

That's always the challenge, finding a marketing strategy that works that is within reach of an average member with little to no marketing budget at all.
