Hi everyone...

I intend to post a longer post in the future, allabout what not to do when starting out BUT before I do that I need some advice...

I was buying from DHgate (fakes of razor blades - didn't know they were fake till customers complained!). I've had 4 people so far out of about 20 say they want refunds on their products, these refunds will cost me around $900. I need to send them back to China to the supplier to get my money. One, do I have to wait for them to reach the supplier before I can expect my own refund?

And two, after awhile my supplier and I did business off of DH as he could do me a better deal (yes dumb I know!), he told me when sending the money via PayPal to mark it as a 'gift' as you pay a lot less in fees. I did so, and he was right about that. Can I make a paypal dispute claim on these if I had them marked down as a gift?

Argggghhhh I've certainly learnt a lot from this! (I hope)

Thanks all,
Shane

Hi Shane,

Sorry to hear of the trouble your going through at the moment. But I agree greatly with your closing line since this experience will leave a deep scar (in your pocket that is).

But seriously, always keep in mind, you can NEVER expect to buy authentic brand name products from China. So if someone offers you a great deal on something at is supposedly branded just turn around and walk away. Remember that 9 out of 10 times these items will be fakes, knock-offs, counterfeits call it whatever you want but they will most definitely not be anything near authentic.

I guess, you'll have to issue the refund to your customers ASAP. Regarding your refund from your supplier, what has your supplier agreed to when you contacted him about this? As with most suppliers, you will have to return the item first before you can get your refund. But I'm not sure about the arrangement you have with yours.

DH Gate has strongly discouraged their customers from doing business with any of their suppliers off the site, this is for your own protection. I'm not too sure if you can file a dispute on PayPal for money you sent as a gift. You can try though.

All the best! :)

Thanks for the advice Richelle...

I thought everyone might like to know though, my seller actually did refund my money today, and they didn't require me to send the product back to them! We made a deal, where I keep the product until a tme when they sell it again in Australia, rather than them re-sending it I will send it from here for them.

It has certainly restored my faith in dealing with products from China!

Excellent news, and sounds like a pretty fair deal actually as I suspected the supplier most likely would not have refunded at all. Only thing you really need to watch out for now is that you don't get caught in some sort of game where if the next buyer wants to return them for a refund, they are not returned back to you again lol

Actually, here's an idea from left field. Once the blades do sell and you ship then quickly, why not suggest to the seller about holding more of their stock for sale. You can set yourself us as their wholesale agent in Australia.

Who knows, you can offer quicker turn around and an Australian address for their products, all they have to do is ship you the stock and give you an agents fee on sales.

Hey, never hurts to ask : )

Good for you Shane! :)

This also means you've found a supplier that may be worth keeping, imagine he gave you back your money. His products may not be real but he sure is for real.

All the best - Cheers!
