Those Born 1930-1979

READ TO THE BOTTOM FOR QUOTE OF THE MONTH BY JAY LENO. IF YOU DON'T READ ANYTHING ELSE---VERY WELL STATED

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out
We forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! S, no Internet or chat rooms.......

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to
Them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them...CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe Thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.
For the rest of us...pass this on.

Comments Appreciated!

God I can relate to almost every phrase of this story.

I think I did about everything in this as well. It definately shows how much the government and law has been pushed over by pathetic cry baby parents and stupid laws. Just a bunch of pushovers bent to the will of uptight jerks that have no will.

I was born in the 70's and I learned like everyone else. I took risks and sometimes I got hurt. But I took the risk. And today I still take risks.

My parents beat me with whatever was readily avaliable weather it be a wooden spoon, fly swatter or a switch on a tree. Or my fathers dreaded 10 pound belt with the huge metal Florida buckle. I was also beat in school by paddle or smacked on the wrists with a ruler.

I built treehouse and forts. I got into fights and my parents didnt sue the other kids parents when I came home with a black eye. I got my first pistol when I was 12 living in texas. And my parents didnt worry about me going to school and blowing away my classmates.

I was out all day and only came home for lunch, my parents never freaked out when I was away longer then 20 min. I came home one day literally stripped head to toe after a bike accident on a gravel road and had to have 3 rocks surgically cut out of my skin. The next day I was out riding again and my parents didnt worry.

Today parents do everything they can to keep thier kids from making mistakes or being punished. How will they learn if you do not let them fail?

I learned things, many times through trial and error. I learned responsibility. I learned respect and above all I just learned that to achieve what I wanted I had to work for it.

In todays world kids live sheltered lives where they take little risk. And are sheltered by laws and parents that have no control of them. Because its unlawfull to whip some sense into them. You see shows on tv where the kids are beating the parents. What the heck is this world comming too? They wont learn anything is school because they have no respect for teachers and teachers have no control over them.

And then those kids turn into adults that have no will of thier own. And Ive also seen that so many kids today are stupid, have no common sense and just no respect for knowledge.

There is a clear line between rearing a child and child abuse. They way our govenrment has ruled that spanking in general is child abuse is just plain stupid and will be the ruin of free willed society.

My rule is run the hose with an iron fist. My kids will be spanked. They will be given the opportunity to learn things the hard way. And they will do things themselves and not always with my help. If my kids want something they will have to work for it. And if they dont believe that the cigarette lighter in the car is hot or the lightbulb socket will shock them im going to let them stick thier fingers in it and find out for themselves.

My daughter once told me that the school told her I would goto jail if I spanked her. With this knowledge what kind of respect are parents getting?

So I grabbed my wallet out of my pants and put 100 dollars in front of her. She asked what that was for. I told her that that is my bail money. And when I get bailed out im going to spank her again. She quickly realized I didnt give a damn about that law. And she started showing the respect I demanded.

I dont want to sound like some jerk but this country was founded under the term god. Why remove it because someone worships a god under a different name. This is THE USA. It will always be the USA. If they came to the USA to enjoy the freedom our forefathers fought and died for, then they should not try and change things like the plege of allegience to suit thier needs. We shelter people from religious persecution. If you take God out of the pledge is that not religous persecution against the United States?

good on ya jimmy well done

we have just have the no spanking law brought in here and i quite often tell the kids im saving up my pennies and there pocket money to pay the $150 fine for the day i spank them.

my kids have learnt the hard way the same as me at there age if you ride you bike into a parpole you wil break a finger which happened, or blanket surfing down stairs will put u in a cast and then there's the electric fence which will zap ya if ya touch it she learnt mums not joking and that could happen.

at the age of 2 they were told not to stick ya feet through the back of the chair you'll get stuck and we will have to get the firemen round to get you out what happened firemen had to come cut them out what one does the other does its a twin thing i guess you would think seeing ya sister get stuck or do things that hurt the other wouldnt do it but nooooooo so they learn from there mistakes but not from each others lol

Yeah, I know several people that did not get spanked or punished by thier parents.

Those people are adults now and I personally cant stand them. They are spoiled, Expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter. And do little if anything for themselves. My own Brother Married such a person. By the way He lives with his wife but He raises his own kid. Changes all of her diapers, feeds and bathes her. And stays up till 4 AM every night with her because he cant get her to goto sleep.

Also he Literally does all the housework including the laundry. Works 90+ Hours a week at his job and with my company. His wife only works 35 hours a week.

His daughter is spoiled rotten and he gets scorned by his wife if he tries to discipline his own kid. She acts up horribly when we go out for dinner. And hes not allowed to spank her to get her in line. But you know whats really stupid. If me or my wife spank his daughter, his wife does not mind. Talk about a double standard lol.

I love my neice, but I will not allow her to grow up being rotten. Im trying hard to teach my brother and his wife that you cant go on letting the child walk all over you. Otherwise they will grow up doing the same.

Sheltering a kid teaches them nothing. Doing everything for a kid teaches them nothing. Not sitting them down and forcing them to do homework or extra activities to learn will teach them nothing. My kids spend 30 min a day doing activity books we bought them. My 6 year old is the best behaved kid in her class and her strong point is reading and math. When shes home shes a little terrorist. But at school she is excelling in her classes, She is polite, Well behaved, And very bright. Not to mention the teachers pet too.

AND YES SHE GETS SPANKED !!

I can snap my finger and point my finger and all of the girls will hit the couch and sit up straight if told to. They are not abused and dont ever get bruises from a spanking. But they know what respect is and they give it on command. Every once in a while they talk back, but they are kids and you have to expect that. Especially if you are wrong and they know it lol.

But my kids have a good life and they know thier parents love them. They are cuddle bunnies and love to sit on the couch as a family and watch movies or spend time on vacations in florida with us.

If you dont command respect in your own house you dont deserve to get respect from your own kids. Simple talk does not work with kids. Threats dont work unless you can follow through with them if they do not comply. In my eyes not spanking a child or letting them learn things the hard way is the REAL CHILD ABUSE. As you are robbing them of experiences they need to live a productive future.

I hate these laws. I don't want the government telling me what to do. When a society gets to the point where there has to be set rules for every little thing-lookout!

The government doesn't trust its citizens and citizens aren't able to resolve things on their own.

Governments have never been able to solve social issues and behavior.

With that said, in my opinion, good communication skills are always senior to hitting. Hitting to me is the last resort not the 1st 2nd or 3rd. A tap on the butt is usually all thats needed.

Sending a child to his or her room to prepare for a whipping is barbaric. I would never do it and haven't had to.

I see you conveniently left your own nice big post on the matter with your own thoughts and opinions completely intact though.

Again, 'LMAO'

This is why I try to just stay out of political disucssions entirely. And why mods at any forum probably should too, since they have ban/edit powers whenever the discussion goes against them.

Correcting a glaring error about what is and isn't in the Constitution = political correctness?

Correcting common misconceptions about the origin and nature of such traditions as the Pledge of Allegiance = political correctness?

Pointing out facets of the personalities of the foudners of America which are conveniently ignored in modern times = political correctness?

(read up on Washington in particular ... he'd have lined each and every one of us up for a spanking from his own hand for having put him on the money, stamps, built a frickin obelisk in his honour, etc. as this is exactly the kind of monarchial nonsense he personally despised in British culture. Washington didn't even like the idea of a president, and debated it vociferously, because it was too much like a monarch to put a single person at the head of a branch of an ostensibly representative government.)

But don't let me get all politically correct on you.
