Hi All,

Does anyone know what the limits are to avoid import tax? Also what is this VAT? It can add up.

Hi - there have been a few other posts on this subject on the forum. I believe that if you are trying to avoid import tax then the best idea is to import lots that are valued under $1000.

As far as VAT is concerned, this is a tax on goods consumed in the UK. If you are importing goods from the UK to Australia, VAT does not apply as the goods are not being consumed in the UK.

This is what HMRC has to say: 'VAT is a tax levied on goods and services consumed in the EC. When goods are exported they are 'consumed' outside the EC and to impose VAT on such goods would be contrary to the purpose of the tax. Therefore, the supply of exported goods is zero-rated provided certain conditions are met.'
