Hello again dear Salehoo friends :)

I have a few questions about Shipping Methods on eBay.

Freight Shipping
----------------
1. What's the difference between :
* Other freight service >
Specify your own freight shipping options in your item description.
*Freightquote.com - Let our freight service provider calculate the shipping cost for you and your buyers automatically.

2. The pickup location text box
*Does it mean how the seller sends the item or how the buyer receives it?
* There are 4 options on this text box ,Can someone please explain each option on this text box, it's not clear to me.

3. Pickup details check boxes
*Driver must go inside building for pickup or
*I need help packing or crating my item and will provide dimensions
To whom this info is Intended (buyer, seller)?

4. Is freight shipping available only for domestic U.S or Internationally too, and if so how ?

5. Does the eBay buyer protection includes also Freight shipping and under which terms?

6.Are all freight shipments have included insurance?

7.Are all freight shipments traceable online, is it mandatory by eBay policy?

USPS,UPS,FEDEX
-----------------
1.Is there an agreement between these companies and ebay that benefits the customer, how?
2.Does eBay require from each seller to add insurance for his item and a tracking option, is it mandatory?

Local pickup
------------
1.Are there any special terms on local pick up?
2.How's the buyer protection works here,How eBay prevents scams by buyer side and how it makes sure that the transaction went great?

That's all for now, sorry it's a bit long but it is very important to me.

Thanks in advanced,

Sivan

Hi sgr4679,

While going over your questions, I feel it is best that I refer you to eBay's Shipping Center - where you can find answers to most of your questions and even more information. Sorry shipping is just not my forte :)

Please visit Link hidden: Login to view

But I will make a few points in reply to some of your concerns -

Local Pick-up means that the buyer will pick-up the item at the address provided by the seller. Purchases are still covered in eBay's buyer protection just like any item sold on eBay. But depending on the shipping courier you are using, you can also request a free Carrier Pickup instead of taking them to your local post office.

Shipping Insurance - You can protect your package against loss or damage during shipping with insurance from ShipCover, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) or UPS, learn more about that by visiting Link hidden: Login to view

As far as I know eBay does not require sellers to provide insurance ( I may be wrong though).

Please let me know how you get on. And which parts you will need further assistance with.

By the way, Irene will be replying to your other questions as she has more stock knowledge on the topic - thanks Irene :)

All the best!

Hi sgr4679,

1. What's the difference between :
* Other freight service >
Specify your own freight shipping options in your item description.
*Freightquote.com - Let our freight service provider calculate the shipping cost for you and your buyers automatically.

If you are selling an item that weighs 150 lbs. or more, you can –

a. Specify your own freight shipping options in your item description. This should include specific details about the freight shipping service such as the cost, and buyers can contact you for information regarding the exact freight shipping cost.

Or

b. you can have the shipping cost automatically calculated (for you and your buyers) using Freightquote.com, which is an eBay partner. Calculation will be based on the buyer's location, the size and weight of the packaged item, and the shipping service chosen. Freightquote.com can be reached at 1-888-875-7822 for questions. :)

2. The pickup location text box
*Does it mean how the seller sends the item or how the buyer receives it?
* There are 4 options on this text box ,Can someone please explain each option on this text box, it's not clear to me.

As a seller, if you want to use another / other freight shipping method, you need to provide type of item, weight, item dimension, freight class, handling cost, and pickup location, among other details. For pickup location option, there is a pull down menu which you can choose which best describes the location where the shipping service will pick up the item.

3. Pickup details check boxes
*Driver must go inside building for pickup or
*I need help packing or crating my item and will provide dimensions
To whom this info is Intended (buyer, seller)?

As stated above, this is for the seller. If you need assistance packaging or transporting the item to the delivery truck, select this option.

4. Is freight shipping available only for domestic U.S or Internationally too, and if so how?

It is available for domestic and international use. If the sellers do not offer international shipping, the buyers can arrange and complete an international sea freight eBay shipment from the USA remotely, from their office or home, and they can do this online. They can use an eBay friendly seafreight price rates calculator such as Link hidden: Login to view

5. Does the eBay buyer protection includes also Freight shipping and under which terms?

I haven’t encountered any resource that states freight shipping is included in the buyer protection program. As stated above, eBay has a partnership with freightquote.com but the seller is free to choose which service to use.

6. Are all freight shipments have included insurance?

No. It is a common misconception that a freight rate includes full coverage insurance, when in fact a base freight rate typically includes only a bare minimum of cargo insurance.

The shipper should always ask their carrier or intermediary what the insurance coverage is for every specific shipment.

7.Are all freight shipments traceable online, is it mandatory by eBay policy?

They should be trackable, with the technology available and the cost involved. It is not a mandatory eBay policy but it is recommended, as you will be needing a Delivery Confirmation number, to help resolve any possible future disputes using PayPal or eBay's dispute resolution process.

All the best! :)

WOW guys thanks a lot !!!
Like always i can count on Salehoo staff and members for great reply :)

One more thing Irene, you said that Freightquote.com is an eBay partner :

1.Does eBay own Freightquote.com like they own PayPal or is it just a business partnership?
2.What are the benefits for the customers thanks to this partnership?

3. This goes for all the delivery companies that are in partnership with eBay,like USPS,UPS,FedEx - are there any special benefits for the buyers thanks to this partnership, is it under eBay policy?

Thanks a lot,
Sivan

FreightQuote.com is not owned by eBay. They provide freight shipping data to many e-commerce sites, including eBay. There are no particular discounts or other advantages, aside from ease of calculation, to using FreightQuote or any of the other methods that are built into the seller interface at eBay vs. using one that isn't.
